Who watched it?
Amazing to watch, and to think that the guy was 4 times my body weight. All the things that he had been through and his family live off McDonalds.
Felt really sorry for the lad that is the same age as me, thing is, I slightly blame his Mum, she wanted him to do all the things she said, then why let him get the way he was, but then why let himself get the way he was. I sometimes look at old pictures of me and think the same thing, yeah I'm not in as bad-a situation as him, but my weight bothers me, I can blame steroids and illness but still if I didn't eat all the crap I used to and still do sometimes I wouldn't be the way I am, heck I probably would be in the England academy for Goalkeepers where I was supposed to go, maybe the army, I was just too unfit and overweight for either.
Thoughts on the program boys and girls...
eat more salad, eat less cake, do some exercise.
job done.

Didn't see the programme, but used to be a bloater myself. The doctor put me on a diet when I was 11 years old. My mum wasn't very helpful, she used to try & make me feel better by saying that I was "Big boned", so I still used to munch through Mars bars etc.
I started working at Morrisons Warehouse in Northwich about 6 years ago. This was really physical work & I lost three and a half stone in my 13 week probation period.
I went from 16 to 12.5 stone, dropped from a 38 inch to a 34 inch waist. i thought I looked good, but everyone around me said i looked ill.
Since leaving there I have put a bit of weight on, but eat sensibly now. It just goes to show it is true what they say, eat properly do some exercise and you will feel & look better for it :)
was he mobile?
If not he must have had a feeder - surely that person should be held accountable for cruelty or something?

The bits in between his legs are fatty deposits, totalled up to 3.5 stone each http://forums.sv650.org/images/smilies/078.gif

I watched bits of it as it was on in the background.
I was most disgusted at the end where the stupid young mother was feeding her baby Mc Fries and trying to ram a Big mac down his throat.
Made my blood boil that! But hey thats America for you.

That pic is awful. How long was he waiting to get treatment?
Really WTF!!!!! How can anyone let themselves get like that?? Seriously, that is pure greed and lack of self control to get to that stage. I don’t think people like that should have all the time money and effort to help them get over what is really lack of self control. Its self inflicted to the extreme so why should my taxes help people like that. Ill help them get thin, hand them over to a military fitness boot camp I am sure they will loose a few pounds in weight there. I was a little chubby as a kid and into my early teens. But as soon as I went to high school played footy all the time and was out all summer the weight dropped off. Being in the forces does help with keeping fit and healthy as well, if you are fat and un fit you can be treated like a second class citizen so kind of makes sure you don’t slack off. Your physical fitness is actually part of your annual report.
There is a big difference between having a bit of a gut and being a fat waster like that, It doesn’t happen overnight and how can you not do anything about it when you start growing out of things all the time? I can’t get my head around it.
Staying in shape is not hard, use more energy than you shove in your face.

Did he have an illness? and even if he did have an illness surely his doctor would have done something about it a long ago

At 18 he was a very normal looking bloke, when he was a kid, really skinny. He moved away, became part of a gang, the nasty sort I think, got out and stayed at home a lot, ate a lot etc.

i dont think he had an illness but his mama was also " not slight " so the question of genetic predisposition must be raised .... however as Plowsie says, at school this chap was an active kid playing American Football etc. he was in fact as skinny as a rake ...
It was morbidly fascinating to watch .... the guys consumed 30000, yes thats was THIRTY-THOUSAND Kcalories a day ... and the diet they put him on went down to just 1200 Kcal - in 3 weeks of the diet and some arm movement exercise he lost 12st ...!!
And Dan Dare !!!! i TOTALLY agree with you fella - i wanted to reach into the TV and throttle the dopey bint - this "kid" prob wasn't even a year old and she was shoving McFries and a burger in its face as "food" !!! Unbelievable

I don't understand how a person in that sort of situation can't discipline themselves to stop eating that much. Willpower! Such a waste.

The kid baffled me a bit:
[kid]
I want to be normal
I want to be slim
[mum]
He's housebound - therefore I have to take care of him
I give him big plates of my leftovers
His favorite foods are foot-long hotdogs, he'll eat two or three hamburgers at a time followed by two large fris and coke....
I want him to be slim and normal
So - kid wants to be slim, mum wants kid to be slim. That's fine.
Kid is housebound, and mum is carer. Also fine.
Kids' favorite foods are hotdogs and lots of burgers - he must get these from the MUM!
Jesus in my opinion she's as bad a parent as Eamon and Antoinette McGuckin - oh, sorry, they were "ill".

One of the causes of obesity in America is that they use high fructose corn syrup as a sweetening agent, instead of sugar. The reason they do this is because of some ridiculous agreement with the government and the farmers. I don't know the particulars, but the government was paying farmers to plant crops that we didn't need. So they realized they could use it in almost all products that use sugar. HFCS is basically poison to a human body. It raises glucose and the bodies metabolic system goes haywire and gets a signal to store fat in the body. HFCS is in almost every single food product in America.
this is a quote from an article about a half ton woman. Think this is the reason Americans are sooooo huge

HFCS is in almost every single food product in America.
And not just the US - next time you drink oh-so-healthy Cranberry Juice, look at the ingredients - HFCS is either the first or second ingredient!
It's a serious concern, especially becuase HFCS doesn't actually count as 'sugar' per-se, so it can be left off those funky nutritional labels everyone's started puttingon the front of things.
Having said that, I'm a staunch believer that for the past 2000 years or so, we've managed fine with healthy balanced eating in moderation. Who cares if you have two or three potatoes, just make sure you eat in balance with your lifestyle!
When I was playing rugby, I was consuming the best part of 3-4k calories a day, and had a bf% of around 5. I've stopped due to injury now, consume around 2k calories and by bf% is more like 50 :-0 Go figure :-)
It's all about moderation - and that's the one thing I don't ever think I've seen more than lip service paid to (or should that be 'lipo' service :D) on any of these fat programs or studies.
