I have a SV650 K2 with 6000 miles on the clock. Been stood for about 12 months and was started up every 3 months or so. I've just noticed that when I've started it up recently, the front exhaust pipe is glowing red hot after about 2 minutes (burning low fairing) It starts up OK, ticks over OK and seems to run OK. The temp warning light doesn't come on, but it does smell hot.

What could be the cause of the overheating exhaust, and what is the solution.

Lean running or bad carb balance IMO

I think you'll find they all tend to do that.

Certainly mine will start to look dull red if I hold the revs up around 3000 and it's in the garage out of daylight (doors open folks!).

I suggest there's probably not much wrong, though some fresh fuel wouldn't go amiss by now!

if the choke is on for too long then they will start to glow
