Oh mighty fountain of knowledge that is the .Org...

A friend of mine* is looking for a new job and is considering applying to Hein Gericke to work in one of their stores, perhaps with a view to getting a foot in the door of the bike industry, but was just wondering a few things. I seem to remember 2 or 3 members or here have worked for them (or still are) so was hoping they might be able to relate any good / bad experiences of working for them - benefits, downsides etc.

Perhaps most importantly of all is what the pay is like, due to having a few financial commitments already which have so far hindered the search for new jobs in other industries. :(

P.S. If anyone prefers to PM replies cos of not wanting to discuss matters like pay / working conditions on an open forum, I will make sure the info is passed on to my friend & won't go any further.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

*Friend must remain nameless as their boss knows they use this site and might be a bit miffed to learn they are looking for alternative employment!

So lozzo, to summerise:

Have a dozy old cow drive into the back of you, end up with a shiny new bike

I always fancied one of those VFR's.....

I worked for HG for about a year... the pay is crap, and it is very much a dead mans shoes job.... you are not employed by HG themselves but by the store manager (as they are franchises) so if you have a problem with the manager then HG don't really care.

The one i worked at there were 4 people that worked there including the boss, which meant that days off were usually during the week. Sales are pretty much a competition between your colleagues so the more you sell the more of a bonus you get at the end of the year, but there was a lot of bitchiness and sale stealing at my store and at the end of the day... i couldn't care less. If you do well... then your salary goes up the following year.

The only way to get promoted was if the manager left and you were able to invest in the store (as i said they are franchises)... if your friend wants to work in the bike industry i'd look at somewhere that actually deals with bikes and not clothing and accessories.... if he has a brain he will get bored at HG very quickly.
