Just got back from Le Mans. Great weekend of racing and the weather was way better than the forecast. We camped from thursday until sunday at the circuit and that is something I'll never do again. There were people bouncing bikes off the limiter literally all night, every night. One bloke made a point of stopping at each tent to make sure we could hear him!!! Still, a lack of sleep and smelly feet did little to dampen the fun really.
Sunday night we left the circuit and travelled around half an hour before stopping for the night at a hotel. There was a mad endurance racer called Thierry Jacques there complete with race bike in the bar (which he too bounced off the limiter whenever anyone was in earshot). An evening of bike chat, beer and green stuff that makes you rather drunk ensued. Great evening to round off the weekend.
We were supposed to sail back from Dieppe at 00:30 this morning but got to the port extremely early so once checking I could find the way popped into Dieppe to kill some time. Went back to the port with 6 hours to kill so after a quick reccie of the ticket office settled down for a snooze on the grass. After an hour went into the office again only to find that a few French fishermen had closed the port in a protest and as usual the authorities would do nothing about it and we couldn't sail until wednesday at the earliest!!! I'm at work weds am so after a small panic when the bike refused to start we took a mad rush to Calais to catch the last eurostar before they too stopped working. Arrived home knackered but still filled with the glow of a weekend of bikes and beers. Sorry no pictures as I couldn't fit even the smallest camera in my over-filled backpack.
