It's not great and essentially its just a rough draft at this stage (that and i hope the link works).
If its possible to get some feedback from the riding community?

Looks like a good idea, anyway you can bring up route annotations on the map when it comes up (possible with normal googlemap), start points, road description (a good set of bens, watch out for the speed camera etc).
With a little more development it could be great.
PS I'm rubbish with computers so you've done way more than I'd be able to do already!

Its a good idea, you could highlight meeting points and times too 8)

That's a cool idea. Simply displayed and easy to read.
I imagine you plan to open it up to (subscribed) users to add their own personal favourite routes and then perhaps add a route rating per area?
Keep us updated!

I always have my doubts about making these things so public, the po po have a habit of turning up on popular biking roads, as do eejits, after they've been mentioned in magazines etc. Ask any locals about the Tail of the Dragon in the US, it's now one of the most famous biking roads in the world, and as a result it's absolutely choked with idiots.
I like it, though membership or whatnot is probably a good idea as has been suggested.
I look forward to finding out some routes west side of London as i'll probably be around those parts a lot, or at least Ealing!
Is the maps API easy to work with? I presume that's how you did it. I'd like to have a crack at that thing some time.

Looks pretty good. We use the same thing in the TV section, but it would be nice to find out routes in other areas if you were just up for the weekend or something.
Great idea. I've saved that link as I like the look of the route. I live in sutton and need some ideas for good local roads as am fairly new to the area

I agree with Northy. I'm always uneasy about publishing 'great roads' because they get over run with feds and 'tourists'. Much better imo to spread the information by word of mouth or find your own great roads by using a map. Have found some cracking roads both home and abroad with a map and a sense of adventure.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. Not sure I'm advanced enough in web design for membership or so on, my initial idea was for people to email me the route or make on in google maps.
It's made using "mymaps" on google maps, its a basic version of the API. I am hoping to try the API later on, then I can set different colour markers for pubs, shops, interests, and speed traps, etc.
Think I might scout out some more routes tomorrow, aslong as the weather stays ok.

that seems like a good idea. maybe an input from people around the country to suggest their favourite routes? i agree about it could maybe attract unwanted attention, but if the routes are that good im sure the police, etc are already aware!! th first route looks good and is clear.

It depends how far you want to go with the idea, if you just want it for a group of friends or an extended group of friends like the org, or for full on public access.
There are a few sites similar to this
http://www.thebestrides.co.uk/
http://www.bestbikingroads.com/
but neither of the ones i've seen are particularly userfriendly, what I'd like is more of a selectable option so you can check boxes to show particular routes, the first doesn't have decent maps of the routes and the second shows ALL the routes on one map making it incomprehensible. but to get to that kind of design I think would take a lot of time and a good learning curve. as I say though, depends on your target audience, looks like a really cool idea personally though.
nicely designed too, I suck at web stuff heh.
