A quick question, do leather knee sliders have a nice pungent smell coming off them after a session on track with lots of KD?
And do they singe and smoke?
Anyone any experience of these compressed cow skin marvels?

Only if you strap a burger on.

Only if you strap a burger on.
I'd never use a strap on, and if I did I'd more likely go for that other BBQ staple the sausage rather than a burger ;)
Anyway back on track...

They 'tug' horribly. Were you thinking of gettign some?? ... if so, my advice is don't! ;)
And yes, they do send off a horrid smell (so my mate told me )

Well I've already bought a set, I'll take some normal sliders along to the track when I try them out in case I don't get on.

Like anything, you'll get used to them, but they do notable 'drag' more than plastic ones which is disconcerting at first!!
Just out of interest - Why did you buy them?

Much like when you get you try to grind your knee on that sandpaper type grippy layer they put on corners now days? That about rips your leg off lol
You'll be needing one of these next Tim! ;)

Because I thought :
a) they might look cool in a burnt leather kind of way
b) the smell could be fun
c) I wanted to experience the different feel
d) It's good to try most* things in life at least once
e) because I got bored over the winter and wanted to spend some readies on biking paraphenalia
*as this is a U-rated forum I shall not mention what I'm not prepared to try ;)

That would go nicely with my plus fours when I'm out shooting, better than my scraggy Barbour, and those elbow patches are just a work of art.

They smell more like burnt wood to be honest, and yes they do smoke a bit! Personally I like the feel from leather sliders, never noticed this drag effect mentioned previously but I suppose it depends what brands of sliders are being used (there is a difference between the brands with leather sliders).

Well used the leather sliders for an afternoon on track after a morning on plastic and absolutely loved them, so much smoother than the scrapey plastic ones, it's more of a scchhhhhmmm with leather compared a crrrrrrrckrrrckrrrrrc with plastic. Only downside is that they wear pretty quick. Another new expensive taste, but great!

Just have a nice ride out to Whiyby.
Buy a brace of kippers.
Bend them to the curve of your leathers & allow to dry.
Attach & go cornering - they'll smell great & will put off the opposition.

Its like everything, tyres, bolt on bits, consumables, etc... we all have different tastes/experiences and this is what usually starts all the debates.
I have nothing against plastic sliders and if I see them going cheap I will buy a set, but I personally do prefer the leather ones.

Well they had a slight browning after 3 sessions on track:
