The HG disc lock seems ample to me and does the trick. I'll find the link to it.

I think the Motrax Vishas is still probably the one to go for, it's pretty good...
the motrax vishas lock came top in the ride test

For an exra tenner on your budgt, i would go with what the above said, i only said the HG one as it fitted your budget. If I used it a lot, I would scrap my oxford boss and used that Motrax.
Remember to budget for a new disc for when you forget to take it off.

Just get a disc lock reminder cable with it and that solves that one.
Infinity are doing the Oxford Titan at about 8squid (half price)
It may not be the best in the world but my theory is that if a real bike thief wants the bike, he will have the bike. Just make sure that yours has more security than the one parked next to it.

I've got the Motrax Vishas, seems pretty hefty and solid. Can't say anyones tried to have a go at it yet, although I may be parking the bike up in Glasgow this weekend so that'll no doubt change!

Mines a length of plastic coated washing line, does the trick.
Since a disk lock doesnt stop them lifting the whole bike into the back of a van then the additional cost of a high quality lock is nullified. Cheap, chearful and obvious is the way to go.
My thoughts exactly Moggs

Any cheap one will do as others have said. It is only to stop oppertunists wheeling your bike away, anyone who wants it will take it even if you have a ruddy great chain on it. Having said that, almost all of my bike mishaps have involved forgetting the disc lock and riding off so DON'T FORGET ABOUT IT!! :D

I use one of these, not only do they do the job, but you kinda can't forget to take it off, and it weighs a tonne, so much so you could knock out a cow with it( not that I would) pricy but worth it £30 if I remember rightly. I know this says dollars but I couldn't find an english picture. You can get em from dealers etc. And they are(or were) Thatcham approved
xena disc lock/alarm:

£20, and you won't forget to take it off cause if you start the bike up and get on it it'll start alarming at you!

I use this one too, and its listed by the insurance company to give a teeny discount. Also use Xena alarmed lock (small but sturdy and visible so good for transportation. On;y use the above job when garaged along with a Magnum chain (Thatcham Approved) and another Xena disclock job (V shaped, can't remember name (see Busters Accessories)). Xena also listed by insurance Co. I think the Xena's were aound the ?25 mark.

Get two, not one. I've been told that removing a disc lock is a case of hitting the disk with a hammer and watching the disc shatter, and the lock fall off. There is still one disc left so they just ride the bike off. Trade price to replace a disc is 15(?).
(this from someone who stopped chaining his bike up at work as can't be bothered lugging two heavy chains around all the time)

Very rare for bikes to be ridden away anyway, most thieves just chuck it into a van... Which of course disc locks do nothing about, they're just a sort of "background security" to stop random bystanders pushing it away. It's stop precisely 0% of real bike thieves, and they don't even need to break it, so the strength of the disc or the lock is pretty much irrelevant. But still worth having for those times when you don't want to chain it up! I almost never chain mine, that's why I have insurance, but when I'm at my brother's place I always use a disc lock because of the kids around there, they might just push it away for a laugh but they don't have vans at least ;)

Thanks for the advice guys!
I think I might look into the motrax locks - they do seem to be getting good reviews. (and a reminder coil is a necessity - Yes I have once ridden away with the disc lock still on :()

another motrax vishas vote from me, solid looking, but very heavy - good for looking beefy, bad for carrying around
if you decide to declare it to your insurance, you will be expected to lock it with the declared method every time you stop, if you don't you'll have a fight to get your money back if someone nicks it - hence why although i use a disc lock, i never declare it on the insurance, you know the time you forget is the time pikey scum will have it...
got a Xena disc lock, solid and compact, has a noisy alarm as well (doubles as a reminder as it'll go off as soon as you move the bike of the stand) had it for 6 months and happy with it. £30 i think :thumright:
