View Full Version : Recommendation for a good Mechanic in Bristol
My cbr600rr has just had it's 12,000 mile service done by Rich Feltham of Fixit Motorcycle Mechanics (http://scratchinmad.co.uk/default.aspx)
Rich operates from a workshop in Portishead but also works mobile, which was ideal for me as it is difficult for me to get my bike to a workshop and then on to work or whatever.
Anyway, the service was a minor and included a change of brake fluid and an oil & filter change on top of the usual inspections and adjustments. Total cost ?37.90 for parts and ?45 labour (1.5 hours) which I think is reasonable on top of being really convenient.
He used to work for Riders, has loads of race and track experience, is polite, well presented and wouldn't scare you in a dark alley (i.e. he's not a tattooed scumbag chancer).
On the basis of my experience I think I'll be using his services for both of our bikes from now on.
Rich mobile is 0772 9866681 - Tell him Alex sent you.

Do you know if he does MOTs? Ah, sorry seen link, not.
Very handy in any case, ta for that recommendation :D

If you need an MOT I recommend the council's own MOT testing station which is on the junction of the A4 Bath Road and Sandy Park Road close to the ITV studios. You won't get leniency, but you will be able to get booked in quickly and be safe in the knowledge that as they don't do mechanical work, they won't tell you that something needs doing that doesn't.
just for bikes.... John I think his name is it's been a while but were always fantastic with me.

Very good suggestion :smt023, esp as I dont have noisy can or anything like that (and a full size plate only takes a minute to slap on)

Hi Anna,
I used to go to John, but the location and hours they work were not convenient for me.

So who can pin threads? It would be so handy too

Only open Mon-Fri 9-5 though so not particularly convenient.

Just had the 11k service done on the gixxer and a pair of tyres for the CB1K yesterday. Again, a faultless job, done at my place and very reasonable.

I know a few good places,
JHS are SV specialists, out towards keynsham area - great service over there and honest guys.
Also try Pete Robson motorcycles, hes an honest honest bloke and will let you know what needs doing in the near future, but wont work on it unless asked to. Nice bloke who loves his bike. (he's my mrs' best mates dad)
Unity road motorcycles are a diamond of a place to go to, theyre honest there and always a corker for an MOT - he'll advise on things that might even fail sometimes.

+ 1 for JHS (http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/), and for the Swindon guys and gals Artdeans (http://www.artdeans.com/live/html) is second to none.

I use bike care to do my MOT's (until the 21st of this month when the guy being recommended in this thread passes his inspection), richard is much cheaper for equal quality of work.
last week he charged me £30 to rejet the carbs (from 155 back to standard 137.5's), straighten the bar end (ok easy!) and give the bike a good going over as it had been written off....was good value I thought.
bike care are good tho
Took your advice and gave rich a call at fixit based in portishead, great service and came to my house to do it too, perfect as the other places are open 9-5 which is useless for anyone with a job!
Very recommeded!

Another vote for Rich Feltham of Fixit Motorcycle Mechanics (http://scratchinmad.co.uk/default.aspx)
He just did a service and MOT for me, price was great and he even threw in a couple of extra bits of work not included in the schedule.
I've had plenty of bad experiences with Mechanics in the past and this definitely wasn't one! He's getting all my business from now on (he also does tyres by the way).
:smt041
I used him for my service but will be giving him a call soon for tyres!

Yeah used to be on here. I pop in now and again to look at potential bargain curvy sv's for track use.
So what's happening with the black sv now?? Dropped a new lump in it yet??

Just thought I'd add that I recently used Rich to give my SV a full service and fit a pair of Pilot Road 3s. Rich came to my work with his trailer, picked up the bike and took it away for the service. Instead of dropping it back off at my house when it was done, I cheekily asked him if he'd mind popping to my work again and collecting some fencing in his trailer and deliver it to my house. He could've easily told me to get lost but instead he was happy to go out of his way to help (for no extra cost)
My bike is a 2007 model with only 6k on the clock so I didn't think that I'd notice any difference after the service but it's like a new bike now, soooo smooth and much better to ride. If you're local then I'd definitely say to give Rich a shout.
Will add to my previous testimony that I used Rich again for my CBR service and new tyres. Spot on once again, came to pick the bike up from work too.

Rich also now does MOTs from the Pembroke Road workshop in Shirehampton.
Just booked Rich for my 7.5k service. Quote came in way under the £173 jhs racing wanted, plus he comes to me! Can't argue with that. Feedback to follow but having read other peoples opinions i'm sure i won't be let down.
Cheers guys, top tip!
Update. Rich came today and as expected, was first class. Polite, honest and reasonably priced (£89 for the 7.5k service inc throttle sync etc)
I'd much rather give my money to a locally based indy like him than one of the larger faceless brands (Fowlers etc)
Will no doubt use him again
Not sure how old this thread is but i always get my stuff MOT'ed at victor motorcycles in west street bedminster (the village of the damned.... don't ask) Doug there is a friendly chap who doesn't make up work that 'needs' to be done ... mainly because he only deals with (mechanically) 125's and scoots, (spits on the floor behind me).

+1 to Victors as used in the past, Bike Care (https://plus.google.com/115246218145795030991/about?gl=uk&hl=en) are also a good bunch of guys (St. George) and I've used Bristol Bike Doc (http://www.bristolbikedoc.co.uk/?page_id=16) too (St. Phillips).

Any of you on the south side of Bristol check out Clevedon Motorcycles. Top group of lads who know their stuff and will bend over backwards to help you. Chris the owner is currently doing £1500 worth of repairs on my GSXR and allowing me to pay in £250 monthly instalments whilst getting my bike back as soon as it is fixed.

Ive known chris and Lolli for a while and they are awesome people! Matt and Nigel are awesome too!

I thought the damage was only £250 to fix?

I use Dave Carter. He did most of the workshop work at Speedwell Motorcycles in Fishponds before it closed down a couple of years ago. Now running his own workshop and doing really good work at very reasonable rates. He can also collect with van. Good mechanic and a very friendly guy too. Highly recommended.
His workshop is at the top of Kingswood, near the ring road.
