View Full Version : How much for a K7 with 10k?

Am about to try and sell the bike. Rung up a dealer just to get a ballpark figure for my K7 sport with 10k miles on the clock and he reckoned that it was worth 2-2,250 - WHAT!!!
I figured that I would be able to get at least 3k for it!
Grrrr - I hate dealers. Think I need to sell the SV ASAP as selling it privately with over 10,000 miles on the clock could be tricky.
What do you guys think I should advertise it for?

Look on bike trader to get some ideas of price first. I always priced mine a couple hundred quid above similar to give me more room for hagglers. Seemed to work well.
Ouch !!!
That's the problem with a bike that is cheap as chips to start off with.
My K6 has just under 18000 and is going to be really silly money if I sell it. Pity really, as it is a well looked after bike.
Good luck with the sale.......
?3k for it private if you lucky, but I doubt it.
I tried for ages to sell mine which was a K6 sport registered december 06 so nearly an 07 it only had 3500 on the clock and was advertised at ?3k for months with no interest.
Nobody is really buying anything at the moment, its a very hard time to be selling.
P/x it if you can but that price does seem about right for the mileage dealer wise.
Stick it in Bike trader and MCN for 2900 privately and see what you can fetch. I got 2550 for my 4900-mile K4 in the end. Possibly could have got more, but I wanted a quick sale.

I'd put it up for just over 3k but you may have to dip just under 3k..
Wot u gettin?
Selling it private is your best chance of getting a good price. Selling to a dealer and you'll get robbed. You may be able to haggle a dealer to get a better price if your using at as part ex.
A private sale will almost always beat a part-ex, and if you're cash-rich from a private sale you can then buy privately too, cutting out the dealer margin.
Worked for me, anyway.

Does seem bit on the low side.. I part exchanged my K6 with 12k miles for 2200..

Hmm - rubbish. 2 issues -
1 - Thought it might be a good idea to get rid of the bike quickly as I currently have 9,700 miles on the clock and selling with 10k+ might be harder.
2 - I cant be without a bike at any point as I use it to get to work and I have no other transport.
Not sure what to do. Might just buy the new bike on credit and then sell pay off as much of the finance as I can once i have the cash...can you put more money than the minumum on a loan part way through? Not sure you can.
Jon
Take photos of the bike and put an ad in MCN and Biketrader ASAP while the mileage is still under 10k. That way it'll show up in search results for the under 10k bracket. If you have to keep riding it in the meantime then do so - the mileage will rise but you can just explain that to any potential buyer who responds to the ad. How many miles a week are you racking up, anyway?
To give you a rough guide, I advertised my SV on the 6th, the online ads appeared on the 9th and it was in print in MCN on the 15th. I took a deposit for it on the 17th and was still getting calls about it for a week after that. I don't think that's a bad turnaround. Get the ad in soonest, get the price right, be prepared to let a couple of hundred quid go through haggling, and you should sell it pretty quickly.
As to loan repayments, it depends entirely on the loan. I've had some that let me pay chunks off early and others that only accepted a lump sum as a final settlement. But why mess about with loans. If you must finance it, rather than buying from your own pocket, then get a 0% balance transfer from MBNA, pay the transfer amount into your current account, take the 3% hit upfront and worry about refinancing whatever's left in a year's time.

Or I suppose I could buy it with my current credit card (If I use a dealer) and balance transfer the total. Hmm, interesting idea.
Will see what I can do. Credit Card companies are not loving me at the moment though. I have been in my property less than 12 months and my bank account is less than 12 months old also.
I'll see what I can do.
If you buy a bike from a dealer with a credit card, they'll sting you for the transaction fee which will add another 1.5% at least to the purchase price.
If you can get a balance transfer to your current account, do that. If you can't, hold fire - at worst you lose a couple of hundred on the sale price as the mileage ticks over 10k (which, lets face it, it's going to do anyway) which will be peanuts compared to the extra you'll pay to buy from a dealer on a credit card with some derisory trade-in.
Option 3, of course, is to not spend money you haven't got, and stick with the SV for a bit longer.

Or - get a loan out and pay it off within 2 months. That way you only pay 1/4 (2 months interest + 1 month early pay off fee) of the interest rate eg 8% becomes 2%!
That looks more interesting as I might be able able to make up the money just by selling privately.
After all this, are you still planning to waste it on a Honda?

Why not? The 600rr is a nice bike that should stand the test of time ie I can keep it as my run about even when I deceide to buy something a bit more powerful.

Was thinking about that - what price you going to sell it for and when will 4dm get it back to you?
Trouble is - I'm not sure about colour. If you have some good hires pictures of the bike then send them over.
Jon
PS - I'll PM you my email address.
If it's black then it's the right colour.

It's partly black :D
Jon, have sent you PM with pics.
Flibbles CBR is in the best colour scheme. I love the paintwork on the black and white Honda.
The black and white paint work is defo the best for the 07 RR :)

.. I almost got it in black, but the 07 bikes do them in an extremely shinny black, matt black/graphite would have been much more appealing

Stupid me. PS might have to lose my knightrider looks as I think I wanna get a bike in a colour other than black. Red, Blue etc.
We shall have to see what happens.

Ok, just pricing the SV up ready for sale. I had a feeling that it was probably worth in the region of £2500 but having looked on BikeTrader and MCN I reckon it is probably worth more.
I have already had 1 person view the bike and they were interested in it when I eired the idea of £2500 (I did make it absolutely clear before the viewing that I hadn't deceided on a price at that point though). I am not that fussed about how quickly I sell it. Within 2 months would be nice though.
Do you reckon £2750 is what I should be asking?

My SV has 10,125 miles; it has lowers and a seat cowl; it has some minor scuffing on rear body work and a small scratch on the swingarm; it has new tires and 6 months of Tax.
Thoughts people?

Yeah then you won't be knocked down lower than you expect. I'd say advertise £3k ono.
I tried for 2 months to sell my 56 plate Jan07 registered SV at £3000 with 4k on the clock....didnt really have a sniff of interest :( Its a fairly rubbish time to be selling, I ended up trading it in for not alot less than I was looking to sell privately.

Hmm £2850 is maybe a good comprimise. It keeps the bike cheaper than all other K7's but not that much cheaper.

Sold the bike to 'Son of Beesting' on the forum. Didn't even have to advertise it (I think Sosha deserves credit for pointing him my way). He got a bargain but saved me the hassel of advertising it etc.
Anyway - hopefully we should see Mr Beesting at one of our future meets.

You have to look at all the points together. Eg the cost of listing the bike the cost of moving it to a new address (cause I will be moving house) etc etc + there is the lazyness factor!
