So heres the situation

you and a close friend have both been put forward for the same job, what would you do if you got the job and she didn't and vice versa would you go for the interview in the first place?

Yes if your friendship is strong then neither of you will resent the other getting the job or even not getting the job. Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition.

Dog eat dog world I'm afraid.

If its an everyday office job and the friend was jobless and desperate It would make me think.

But if its a great job which are few and far between then its a no brainer.

Only a girl would pose that question!!!!!!

Of course you go for the job & when you get it you utterly humiliate your friend at every opportunity...don't you???? ;o)

Or, better yet, you offer to pay for them at the pub/restaurant etc because you know they don't have much money!!!!

Or is that just me?

If one of you gets it and the other sulks etc , then whoever dosent get it needs to grow up i think.

Go for it, as said dog eat dog world.

Depends how much you want the job in question.

Personally I'd go for it if its something that I really really really wanted to do. If it wasnt then I doubt I'd even apply for it in the first place.

As long as the other person knows you are applying to and you dont hide anything from each other about the situation then I cant see its going to do anyharm.

Go for it.
This situation happened to me a few years ago. 3 of us all doing the same level admin job (as sat around the same desks), went for the supervisors jobs when she left. Obviously only one of us got it (not me) and we were still great mates afterwards.
If anything, it was better, as it meant that my supervisor was really sound, and we'd have 1to1 sessions in the pub on a Friday afternoon! lol.

that would be the last thing you should do. if i interview somebody and they diss the other candidates they certainly won't be asked back for a 2nd go thats for certain.

good luck tho T

Been there a few times myself.

Easiest thing is to discuss it with your friend beforehand. Remind each other that it often comes down to how the interview goes. One of you could have a bad day and that could be the clincher rather than who's the "better person".

Working in same place as spouse needs careful thought, though. Okay if not working directly with each other or in the same office but might cause "issues" if you would be (not with spouse but with colleagues).

Honestly, this place is a joke sometimes, so don't get me started! Infact, I'm going outside for a large Mocha to calm myself.
