Staggered by the lack of star quality in BSB this year , we've launched a competition - see sig - what are your top 5 lists of racers with star quality, both riding now in BSB, in the support classes, and then riding anywhere in 08, and of all time...

new Ghostrider dvd to be won among others, which is outrageous:smt077

Troy Bayliss for BSB. All time for me is a toughie. Barry Sheene was awesome as was Freddie Spencer in his day and who can ignore Rossi. Just leaves the 69 year old guy I saw win a classic race at le mans the other week, Phil Reed, who still rides superbly well.

There are so many top racers, both past and present, it's hard to pick 5.

Rossi is a legend, back to back GP title, on 2 different bikes.
Dave Jeffries pushed the limits of the TT.
Then there are past master like Foggy, Sheene, Rainey, Gardener, Doohan.

But BSB has lots of star quality, and great riders. But I think it's all about the bike - unless your name is Haslam!

For example, Ellison has 2 years GP riding under his belt, and his talent showed in qualifying when it rained. He was up there for alot of the race.

Shakey has been nowhere the past few years, but no he is on a great bike, and he's kicking sand in everyones face.

Leon was on a great bike the last two years, but didn't get the title. He's Now gone to Honda, and is struggling, in the extent that he' still learning the bike. Maybe next year he'll come good on the Honda.

So I think if you are a good rider, and get a good bike, you will come through.

Guy Martin is amazing, watch him at the NW200. He's fearless. Michael Rutter is another superb rider.

I think BSB has a lot to offer, and it is the race series I enjoy watching the most by a country mile!

Wayne Rainey

Anyone in their 30's or above might remember that save being used as a template for a tv advert - for Toshiba if I remember correctly.

somehow i gets the feeling no-one has looked at the actual article this is based on ....(click the sig below if interested )

The point is - there were 9000 people at Donington last w/e - thats unheard of ...why ? Is it cos theres no personalities in BSB anymore ???

Heres my top 5 racer personalities ...

Sheene
Rossi
Biaggi
Fogarty
Kocinski

The last 3 are people many love to hate , but thats just as good re crowd draw...thats the theory anyway:cool:

There was a lot more than 9000 at the previous round at Brands. And it was a great days racing (characters or not)made better value for money by having a few Bemsee club races thrown in.Could it be that most BSB rounds are seen as expensive to get in to considering the number of races on?
Also the weather forecast predicted a washout at Donny, wrong as it turned out.

I know of several people (including me) who would have gone if the weather had been juneish rather than januaryish. On the day it didn't look too bad (well it wasn't raining anyway) but when the TV coverage is so good it is more tempting to stay in, get a few jobs done then watch it in the warmth with a couple of beers.

Well, it was for me anyway!

I love going to racetracks in the sun, but when it's not a nice day (particularly given how open Donington is) it doesn't seem so tempting.

I love BSB and plan to go to a couple of rounds this year but I guess we're spoilt in that there's so many within a few hours ride you can just pick the ones held on a sunny day.

Who was the sidecar racer ( Florian Camathias ? ) whose transporter broke down on the way to the Island.
So he put everything onto his outfit & rode that - including through the Mersey Tunnel.

The main factory men in BSB this year are - for the most part - tragic !

Look back 10 yrs - when Foggy was at his pomp - is it fair to say he put 50,000 on the gate when WSB came to Brands ? You cant imagine this years bunch putting 5 on !

What about Y2K - a classic year granted - but Walker vs Hodgson was brilliant wasnt it ? Hizzy was a big draw too...i think the organisers have to work hard at keeping the Stalkers of the world in the series....

What about Pedrosa ...anyone ???;)
