Aww hun, why didn't you want to be 30? your gorgoues and married, you should be proud!

A weekend away sounds nice but the person I know ;) needs more than just a change of scene, gets bored easily!

If he likes a change of scene get him a digital photo frame! I've bought a couple for family and friends and they've loved them - particularly if you can get hold of some photos they're in / they like and load them on before you give it to them.

It sounds a bit tack but we have ours on at home all the time, got about 500 photos on a random shuffle and it's great walking in to the room and it reminding you about a great time you had.

No we don't change unless we are hung up on our age. I'm 46 (or is it 47??) and don't care about the age. My kids still think I'm 'cool' enough to go boating, hang with them and their mates etc. Age is an attitude not a number. If he is worried about getting 'old' he might go out and buy a sports car/bike/woman or whatever cliche he fancies, but I think he'll be the same guy at 30 as at 29 .

As far as a gift for his birthday, anything with big boys toys with engines would be ideal. Men are just big kids anyway :smt045. For my 40th we went and drove tanks for a day, played with guns (de-activated ones :() and had a lot of man fun. I can heartily recommend that. Or how about tank paint-balling (http://www.chaospaintball.co.uk/)?

Turning 30....hmmm, that was 7 years ago for me. All i can remember is going out for dinner in the evening. That was about it.

No idea for a pressent. How about a proposal of marrige? That should mature them up a bit :) As for maturing, nope, i'm knocking on the door of 40 and still feel like a 21 year old...but cant find one ;)

I had the pleasure of oganising what was quoted as being "the bestest best cirthday pressie eeeeeevvveeeerrrrr"...

... I hired (OK 'borrowed') the Middle School I worked in at the time for an afternoon, got about 30-odd mates made up as Zombies and had my mate (the birthday boy) and a couple of friends kitted up as squaddies. He was then bundled into the back of a landrover with a sack on his head - driven to the school, guided (still blindfolded) into the crawl tunnels under the school's floor and then let loose.

Squaddies, guns, zombies - with all his fellow squaddies 'dying' at various points along the way it ended up with him being cornered in the Library screaming 'COME OOOOOONNNNN!' whilst being bundled to death.

Even better, after three years - the story of this 'Private Event' has circulated throughout the LRP community to the point that when I last overheard people talking about it there was over 100 zombies and the guy was commanding a whole squad. I created a legend.

Best of all we got the whole thing on video - but three years later and I still haven't seen it!

I worked into my 30th, slept through it and worked out the other side - rostered night shifts!

I had no problem with it. My philosphy: Biology means everyone must grow older but there is nothing to say anyone must grow up! Since I didn't have any control over when I arrived, I feel no pressure to celebrate its anniversary, even the supposed more important major milestone ones. Just celebrate life whenever it takes your fancy.

So, no, he won't suddenly change. If he does, that's when you start worrying!

Buy the man a cake with candles!!!

I hit 30 in March, and am still driving my 24y/o Lass to dispair! Whether that's bouncing round Sainsbury's doing the food shopping or getting a strop on when a can't find a bit of minikit on Lego Star Wars II.
I hated the thought of hitting 30, but it's no big deal - got very very drunk! (just ask Jdubya and EoE)

Well, he wouldn't want to damage that nice carpet he spent all that money on!!

Don't make too big a deal over it being his 30th ... everyone is different, but by highlighting it is his 30th and saying stuff like "So what is it like to be 30?" only starts to sew seeds it is a bad thing ... at the end of the day, he will only be 1 day older than the day before ... not 30 years older!! ;)

As someone else said, never underestimate the power of a bit of nookie on a fella ... make sure you starve him the week before too so he is extra grateful!! ;) (sorry Phil!) and dress up all s3xy ... you never know as a little treat, you could do that thing you always refuse for him*! ;)

That is what I meant, just treat it as any other birthday and so what you would normally do .. the fact it is his 30th to my mind is irrelevant*!! :)

Ok ... reflecting on the aforementioned error .. I still think I can recover from this .... and recover well ... 8)

Here we go ... ;)

M24_7, bearing in mind this is supposed to be a surprise outfit, Phil himself obviously can't see it before hand ... as highlighted, every individual has certain tastes ... so the only remaining option you have open to you is to ask as many males as possible (i.e. the .org) what they think of each of the outfits and then jot down the results and find out what outfit got the most points ... this averaging process will help you cover all bases of taste to increase confidence that Phil will like it! 8)
