Argghhh!! Just taken out travel insurance with Insure&Go, who do not cover motorbikes over 125cc without a policy endorsement. No problem, as I used them last year and it cost something like 17 pounds extra for bike cover for 15 days.

This year it will cost 58 pounds (extra!) for the same cover!!!! :shaking:

So can anyone recommend a travel insurance company that will cover riding a motorcycle over 125cc and do not charge the earth? I need recommendations for companies folks have actually used please!

Thanks

With the Premier current account with Alliance and Leicester you get free EU travel insurance and can pay an extra £30 to make it worldwide. My understanding is that there is no restriction on use such as being on a Motorcycle, as I looked into it this year for going to france (In the car now sadly).

Kerry's dad has just opened an account for the free travel insurance as he is coming to france on his bike with us.

You also get the chance to open a 12% interest savings account for a year.

There's an age limits of 65 though ;) j/k

EDIT:- Apologies, just been reading the policy booklet and it is motorcycles upto 125, he specifically rang though as I remember him doing it and there was no problems and no extra money asked for.

FS - NCI wanted 65 which is much cheaper than insure and go, but found that the AA were cheapest at 44. This covers two people for two weeks motorcycles over 125cc are not excluded.

Greame - the 125cc restriction is VERY common.

I just went to Carole Nash for holiday cover last year. They covered me and matt on the same policy. They pointed out the problem with the 125 thingy when i was checking the european breakdown etc for our trip, so I just covered my holiday with them rather than looking elsewhere.

You'll be hard pushed to find travel insurers to cver for anything over 125, like the PO etc

AA for me again. Tried a "free" one with my insurance company a few year ago. Got recovered eventually but a total hassle and and trying to recoup the costs when back home. The very basic help. ie recovery truck to a garage. I needed a 3 night stay in Bregenz to wait for parts. No help with accom or taxi or car hire. Thank feck my mobile was free calls.

AA sorts this all for you.

Getting a bit confused here. Isn't this a thread about personal accident cover as opposed to vehicle cover.?

We were with Insure and Go for our personal cover last year, so watching this fred with interest.

Yes it is for personal cover. Insure and Go want 5.50 odd per person / per day for riding a motorcycle over 125cc this year Pete!!! That was well over 100 quide for me and Claire on this trip. So they can Foxtrot Oscar! AA for personal cover this year were most competitive and I have double checked that riding a motorcycle over 125cc is covered.

Now trying to sort out European breakdown cover....

Ah Mike, it was post 7 and 8 confused me.

You not got bike cover in this country LP? Just upgrade that maybe. And, an old favourite of mine, everybody talks about breakdown cover, arguably recovery after an accident is far more important.

I have RAC cover in the UK, but they want 85 notes to extend that to cover Europe. This is more expensive than straight European cover cos we are going to the Czech Republic and Hungary which are 'zone 2' countries.

Agreed on recovery after an accident, but isn't that what comprehensive bike insurance is for? (cos mine does)

Ok worse case scenerio. You have an off. You're carted off to hospital. With full accident recovery, your travelling companion can contact the recovery company direct. Sort the collection and leave. Otherwise it's deal with the insurance company, not open after office hours and usually UK based, my foreign cover has euro phone line, and then wait while they might or might not organise a collection. Ask Stretchie what happened with his company.

Belts and braces obviously and hopefully never happen.
