Thin soles wont help you much on the bike - you use the top of your toes remember :)

Try and get gore-tex type waterproof ones, you can use those all year round - I got a really nice pair of Sidi Vertigo Corsa's which look good, are good, but I get wet feet on a cloudy day.......

Please get the best boots you can afford, ones that dont allow your ankle to twist, as I believe that my Sidi's have saved me from at least one broken ankle.

Sidi Blackrains would possibly be in your budget range.

I can't speak highly enough about the Alpinestars SMX4 WP boots. I also know a lot of peeps on here have them. They are pricey at £140 smackers but I came off in them and they were the only bit of kit that I can still use. They are comfortable to ride in and walk in and have seen PLENTY of rain. As SoulKiss said, get the best you can afford.

Tis worth having a scout about on Ebay, I got a pair of Frank Thomas Goretex boots off there for the bargain price of ?29 (RRP over ?100). Am finally getting round to wearing them in a bit now and they're fab. Always worth a look if you're not wanting to spend too much in the beginning but I expect most people like to get such items brand new :smt102 I however am a skint student lol

I'm more than happy with my Sidi Evo Rains, over 5k miles and they're showing some signs of wear on the sole but still sound, comfy and easy to change gear with:cool:

+1 for the A* SMX4. Over 10K miles now in all weathers and never had a wet foot. Pretty cool in the hot sun too, so genuine year round boots IMHO

Sidi Vertigos always seem to do well in tests on the basis of good feel.

Will be having myself a pair later in the year. Having said that, my Gaerne race boots have great feel, although possibly a little less protective.

Definitely +1 for Alipnestars SMX Plus, I dont know if they do gore-tex ones or not. Mine aren't and I have ridden them in shocking conditions and they havent let a huge amount of water in!
