View Full Version : June Photo Comp!
Another competition and another topic this time chosen by last months winner b_1_rd!
The subject is...Water!
b_1_rd is going to get an example picture but to quote b_1_rd "Basically the idea behind it is to have water in the picture, whether that be a rain soaked bike, a landscape with water behind (or in front for the adventurous types) a bike. Even a wet road or puddle would do. In keeping with the forum, the bike should be included.
Not much more I can add to that really, following on from last competition it should be fairly easy to keep it on topic esp. judging by todays weather!
Good hunting

I know I know, you've seen it before, but I really do like this photo, its also proof you dont need hundreds of pounds worth of DSLR camera to get a good picture as I took this on my Nikon CoolPix4600 which at the time cost £100 you can get better compacts for that money now

Excellent starters guys, I don't need to send an example now, the rest have some beating to do already.
Fizzwheel is right, a good picture is not good because of the camera. Sure it helps in the picture's final quality and that only really matters if your blowing the picture up to poster size, the content has to be good in the first place and that's what counts.
Good luck all.

My idea this morning was to take a photo of the SV with Lake Norman in the background. On the way to take the shot, remembered there is a fountain in the center of Birkdale Village, Huntersville, NC on the way for the Lake shot. The children were playing in the fountain to cool off, since it will be in the 90s here this afternoon:

I think those are the best sort of shots, where you havent planned its just a case of point and click. It seems more natural that way.

Absultely Fab photo. Colours are really good.
Interesting to see that you are suffering from the really, really irritating compact digital camera problem of dust spots on the image sensor (which show as the two round grey dots on the left side of the photo). I have this problem with my Sony DSC P200. There's loads about this issue on photo forums. There are a number of options: You can send your camera back to the manufacturer to get it sorted. You can open up the camera yourself and clean it - looks scarily complex to me! Or, I saw one fix which suggested placing a vaccum cleaner hose over the lense and in effect sucking the dust out. I read a lot about this and then tried it (very carefully!) and amzingly it did remove the worst of the dust and the camera is fine!! Not necessarily recommending this, and strictly no liability for damage to .org members cameras accepted!! The less drastic option is to use Photoshop or something similar to digitally erase the marks......
Still love the photo.

It'd be a piece of **** to touch that up using Photoshop. You'd be done in about twenty seconds. And that includes opening the programme first.
Am I right in thinking we are ok to enter without the presence of a bike in shot?

they wont be on your lens they are on the sensor :p trust me i know it happened on my 20d. i figured out a way to clean it all off though. got a straw and taped it to the hoovers smallest nozle and then hovered about 1mm over the sensor (careful not to touch it) and keep the hoover well away. it worked for me

Ah yes thats a good point, generally we close it 5 days before the end of the month. That allows 5 days of voting for the winner, lets say the 25th, nice number to end on.
Awesome pictures so far, G2D that is a stunning pic, where was it taken?

This is no more than 40mins (at a very leisurely pace) away from my front door.
And yes, that is the road ahead winding and wiggling away down there... After the descent the road runs right the way alongside the loch, it's stunning it really is! Oh, and this road eventually brought me out about mid-way along the famous A701 (Edinburgh to Moffat 'Beeftub' road), just to doubly re-enforce exactly why I took up this wonderful new hobby!!
Taken with a camera phone so apologies for the grainy image quality!
