Had a few problems with mine this week, but yesterday had an inkling of what it was. Gladly, the sun was shining after work, so i set to getting the tank & carbs off.
The carbs were full of water as in pic 1

The tank was even worse with nearly 200ml of water sitting in the bottom of it.

I was correct that the hole in the top of the tank to get rid of water was completely blocked with crud, so the water went straight into the tank itself. I have only run it in the yard, so I hope that it will be ok now.

Hoping it gets me to work this morning, if not it's a long walk :)

Glad you got it fixed, this problem hasn't been as common recently, but was frequently reported some time ago.
I've seen a few damaged tanks too - rusted either in the drain itself, (the blockage allows water to sit in the pipe), or water sitting in the tank rusts it through at the rear on the left just by the seat.

Couple of chugs 1st off, but is running as sweet as a nut again. I'm like a pig in muck, dont like riding IL4s keep looking for 7th & 8th gear all the time :(
The amount of prodding withy a piece of wire was amazing, but the muck eventually shifted.

Here you go. The hole goes from here to the rear of the tank. Make sure it's clear, or you will end up with the same problem as me.
