I don't always get it right I am afraid
And here is the vid to prove it!! :)
Taken at Rockingham today (4th June 08 ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8OvRyAXr70
Anyway, you didn't get to see much of the track in that (well a close up of the kitty litter I suppose ) so here is a proper/complete lap of the circuit from yesterday. :)

and a bit more, 2 laps this time ... and the heat is on with an R1!! 8)

I am totally fine (if you notice in the vid, I run straight to the bike and turn it off 8) ).
It was my main bike, fortunately the bike looked a sh1tter beforehand!!
As for damage, apart from fairing, it broke the clocks, bent the screen brace, bent a clip-on tube, snapped of the gear linkage rod, and ground away the left peg (and crash bung). I had a spare clip-on bar and rear-set, the rest I bodged back together with duck-tape and cable ties   Anyway, it happened just before lunch and I got it fixed up for the first session after lunch!! 8)
I need to investigate for exact straightness of forks for piece of mind, but it seemed to ride ok so can't be too bad!! 8)
But I have 'holed' my leathers in a few places

Ooops bad luck.Glad it all turned out more or less ok.
Unfortunate... good to know you finished the day. It seems there was a slight correction before the front slid away. Were you trying to pull the back around a bit to correct it or what?

Do you mean when the left bar hit the deck and turned the front wheel??
What I think is really cool is that if you look carefully, there is very little extra angle/lean happens between when I was riding it and when it was crashing on the crash bungs/hitting the deck ... she was rit-over 4 sure!! 8) ... only perhaps a smidge' too far on that occasion!
Good to meet you today. Can't believe how quick you got the bike bike together. Good work. One of the Milies (the Factory) bit the dust in the last seesion. Trailer job :(.

At first I thought it was just the tyres were not up to full temp. But having watched the video I had actually done 3 laps prior to that (initially thought it was just 2) and although I had been sat in the collecting area for a bit, it was a nice day, so I doubt the tyres cooled THAT much from the warmers, 2 laps might have been a bit marginal, but 3 should have been enough! :)
Again, having now looked closely at the video footage, I simply think I just lent that bit too far that lap and the front 'tucked' (knew the front had tucked, just for a different reason than I first thought - I was annoyed with myself at the start!). Looking at the footage, it certainly isn't that many more degrees over from when I was riding it to when it was sliding on its side!! 8)
As for tips, there is a 90deg right hander down the bottom bit, that might catch you out if you steam in there too fast/hard, also the hairpin before the start-finish is slightly off-camber and has over banding, again, take care there! :)

Well it did look pretty damn horizontal! So are you hanging off enough? If you are, do you think you could go round that corner any faster at all? Could Rossi? If so, how could he do it?

Rossi could go faster than me if he was on a shopping trolley!! :D
I just over-stepped then mark that tiny fraction ... you even see MotoGP gods do it ... proving no one is infallible, even the truly talented and experienced professionals, let alone me! Its simple ... you push the limits, sometimes you over-step them/get bit ...
I was on a trackday, trying to get faster and learning the track, I evidently pushed that bit too hard and the front let go ... that is what can happen ... you have to be a bit philisophical about these things!!
Sure its gonna cost me some time and money to fix the bike and leathers stuff; but I am not hurt, so I am not that bothered by it!! - it happens! ...
I think the footage is quite cool :takeabow: :D ... and it just goes to show how hardy those little cams are!! 8)

A footballer doesn't have a complete pack of bikes piling round the same corner you just crashed on (that your bike may have just left a pile of oil on too)!! ... if I am able to run out of the way, that is exactly what I do, and quickly!! ;)

It happens, fortunately I am not a 'crasher' by nature ... but it kinda goes with the territory of pushing hard; is bound to happen on occasion! ... but those gixers don't get a fight from an SV650 by me always taking it easy ... I love riding close to the limits of the bike, I try and keep it on the rubber side down of that limit, but every now and then it's gonna bite me!! ;)
Oh and if I have paid for a day, I am gonna use it!! ... That is why I take a spare bike AND some common spares! ... as Fizzy et all saw with my loaded rucksack on our French rideout, like a good boy-scout, I like to be prepared!! ;)

See, next time someone asks me why I'm so slow on track, I'll show them that video :D Glad you're OK though, this is what trackbikes are for right? Bending, hammering straight again, and not caring...

You were really cranked over when it let go.
Does the front tyre have any chicken strips? Might you have rolled off the edge?
I've lowsided my bandit 400 a couple of times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwz-Sa7l18 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iw6THazM7g skip to 2:50), first time I thought it was cold tyres but after the second time (not on the same day...) one of the marshals suggested I might be rolling off the edge of the rear. The tyres are GT501's and there's no chicken strips on the rear so I think he might've been right. I'm going to change to sport demons on the bandit because I think they've got a better tyre profile.
If you did roll off the edge, maybe different tyres would give you more lean? Or just make sure you hang off a bit more so the bike stays more vertical?
Looks like you're going real quick. Makes me look forward to taking my sv to the track (and a bit worried about crashing it...!).

Here are some pics of the front tyre - (I have taken it off now)
Plenty of Chicken strip left!! :D ... but chicken strip isn't always a great indicator of if you have gone 'off the edge' ... i.e. depending on bike/tyre the geometry/angles are such that you are not getting a big enough 'footprint' to hold the bike up, before getting to the edge.
Tyre (notice the loss of profile on RHS (I should have replaced it before that day - but the RHS profile was nothing to do with the incident in question))

RHS Chicken strip (notice the loss of profile on RHS)

LHS Chicken Strip (it was a LHS crash, so this is the important one)
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb319/blue_sv650s/SVfronttyreLHS.jpg
Looking at your vids (what camera gear do you have BTW?) The first one to me looks like it was too much welly cranked over (indeed perhaps cold tyres too) and the rear end let go, the second was the front, but surely just where it was wet/damp? ... it looked like you were riding in a rain cloud, that can't be good for traction!!
I have no idea what GT501s are  the Supercorsas I use are great, but the bike/tyres do have limits, I am normally pretty good at judging these (I am not a 'crasher' by nature) ... but on the day I was evidently just a bit too keen on this occasion and overstepped the mark, its a fine line! I should have also replaced the front tyre before that trackday as it has seen a fair bit of use already so that didn't help! But it was the RHS that was worst, so I just took it that it easyer on the rights ... the LHS was good to go :)
To be honest I didn't think I was pushing it THAT much more than I had done on that corner dozens of times already that day ... obviously there wasn't as much left as I thought! :D
As for 'getting off the bike' ... there is only a certain amount of that you can do, you are already 'on the floor' .. as the speed builds further, the bike needs to be lent more to increase corner speed ...
p.s. good to see another inappropriate trackbike out there mixing it up!! 8)

Your lowsides are a bit bizarre? Blue's bike seems much more cranked over when it loses grip. Your first one was cold tyres maybe and second one it looked misty and wet?? Odd though, didn't look like you had leant too far, overcooked it, or suddenly whacked open the accelerator. I'd just get a different bike with different tyres if I were you :-P

I have no idea what GT501s
The camera is a security ccd bullet camera recording onto a jxd900 portable media player. The microphone was made with bits from an electronics store using approximately this circuit: http://www.reconnsworld.com/audio_singleicpreamp.html and is jammed in a piece of foam in the tail fairing. The JXD900 only records at 320x240 pixels and seems to compress the video quite a bit, but it can record for ages and is good enough quality for youtube.
I don't think the bandit has enough grunt for 'too much welly' to make the rear slip, at least not in the dry at that speed. In the second crash the track was damp and the front does turn in a bit, but I can't tell if it's before the rear lets go or after, it doesn't look like the front slides at all before the rear spins around, so I'm going to continue to think it was me rolling off the edge of the rear (that way I can hope to avoid doing the same thing in the future by getting different tyres). :)
Dunlop GT501's are a cheap crossply tyre, good for commuting, not so good for track days. I've had Pirelli Sport Demons on there in the past, I think they were better, with them I crashed because the peg dug in and dragged for too long. ;) I don't touch the pegs with the GT501's, I think it gets to the edge of the tyre first.

I think they make avon viper sports in 150 section if that's what the 400 takes..
This gives me the chance to ask a question. Losing the front and lowsiding is often referred to as the front "tucking". Why tuck? It seems so odd to me. "Tuck" suggests gathering closer or drawing in, or beneath, or securing. Strange to use "Tuck" to describe when the front is about as far from that as possible..........is that the point? Or maybe just one of those sayings that, despite not really making sense, has been around so long everyone knows what you mean anyway. Like "I could care less" in America.

I got a JXD too but the jxd 638, it does 640x480. But I have a devil of a time trying to edit the footage. What software do you use with yours? Do you have special codecs?? I'd love it to just work in windows movie maker and edit i there, but at the mo I have to 'process' it before I can put it in WMM ... and that takes ages :(
Why are you using commuter tyres on the track? Do you use it as a commuter bike too? ... if you do, I suggest getting a 2nd set of wheels and putting track rubber on there for trackdays 8)
I only have the videos to go by, your behind was in the saddle, but the first one is the back going, the way the revvs pick up it is the rear loosing traction ... it couldn't handle that lean with that power ... so too much lean for the power .. or too much power for the lean ... either way its the same thing!! ;) ... the second one looks like the front going to me, the camera angle/where you are pointing doesn't change at all before you see the front turn/tuck. It looks 'front end' that one to me, not rear.

Interesting, never really thought about the terminology!! I should imagine it originated by the feeling you get when the bars just suddenly lose tension and turn on you, it is kinda 'folding' ... tuck .. fold ... same thing ... that's my guess anyway ... it is a very distinctive feeling!! :o

What do you mean by process it? I use windows movie maker, it has to import the file into collections to use it. The JXD900 saves the files as .asf I'm able to play them in windows media player. I can't remember what codec it was that I had to install, possibly this one:

I actually wanted to get sport demons which are a sport touring tyre, but the shop had trouble getting them in time and gave me the GT501's instead, they said they're supposed to be a better tyre than the sport demons (they're a bit more expensive) so I thought I'd give them a go. I'll get sport demons next time, I don't think there's much point getting something stickier on the bandit unless I move the footpegs higher, which I don't want to do. I'll have to do some research into what tyres to use on the sv for trackdays etc, but it might be a while before I take it on the track. I've actually got a second bandit (well, bits of one) as a spare parts bike, I could take the wheels off that if I wanted. Yep, I use the bandit for commuting as well.

By pre-processing I meant I had to use a bit of software to convert it from the encoding on the JXD into something WMM would work with (it would just crash with the raw JXD files ... so before I could edit the files, I had to encode them all ... that took fecking ages and reduced the quality  ... anyhoo, that codec you linked to seems to have worked ... just did a quick test and WMM didn't crash ... you are a star ... I must have installed a dozen (literally) codec packs to no avail!! :notworthy:

Cool!! 8) :D
As you can see from the pic below of the front tyre, there is still a few mm of 'chicken-strip' on the LHS ... but yes, the angle was more than the tyres/suspension could handle!! And its not like you can get it any further over to get rid of those chicken strips is it!! ... if you watch the other vids you will see the same sort of lean was used over and over again ... I obviously just pushed that .x-deg too much and she 'washed' ... kind of a reminder how near an off I am every lap, but normally judge it just the right side of tragedy!!  ... I know what it was ... I had just put a new(er) rear tyre in and was loving the grip I was getting, so had come out of the RH turn a bit harder than before (the RH of the rear on the other tyre was totally shot, so the bike wasn't 'hooking up' as good/well) with that grip now restored and therefore more beans out of the turn, that extra x-MPH was not totally scrubbed/accounted for before I tipped it in to the left ... next stop is the gravel!! :(

Oh and unfortunately no pics of the crash (or any of the LH section for that matter :( ).
... anyhoo, that codec you linked to seems to have worked ... just did a quick test and WMM didn't crash ... you are a star ... I must have installed a dozen (literally) codec packs to no avail!! :notworthy:
:)
Glad to have helped!
