I am thinking long and hard about getting the bike I have always loved.:)

A Honda VTR1000 SP1 or SP2.

I love the shape, sound and noise and would love to keep with a V-twin.
I have never ridden one so has anyone got any experience of these bikes and know which is better as I heard confilcting reports between the SP1 and SP2.

They are also still pricey and a new one can still be got for 9k.

The SP1 is a seriously focused motorcycle. Very unforgiving if you make an error. The SP2 is more rider friendly but is still quite a beast. Fuel economy is, well, not. Very thirsty beasts.

Beautiful machines but expensive toys.

Rode an SP1 for 10 minutes. I actually had it for an afternoon but 10 minutes was enough. Hated it. Snatchty as all hell on the throttle, the most uncomfortable thing I've ever sat on (including nails) and twitchy as well (perhaps my lack of skill). SP2 not sure, but I would test ride before you even think about it. Soudns great and looks sexy though. Insurance is very steep too.

Get one for a bit if you've always wanted one and can afford it. You don't have to keep it forever. :) I think SP2 is a no brainer decision too personally.

Indeed SP2 looks and sounds the knackers.

Shame there wont be a SP2.

If you dont get on with the SP2 then try the Ducati's and the Aprilia RSV models. :D

I was looking at the sp1 after getting rid of the sv but ended up with a TL as it just seemed a much nicer bike to ride. test rode 2 sp1's a tl1000r and 3 tl1000s's.

i was thinking of getting one, but after a bit of reserch, i decided against it, crap mpg small tank, and hard work to ride around town..... although it would have been a sp2

Never rode an SP2 but the SP1 I rode was the worst roadgoing bike I've ever ridden... Uncomfortable, clumsy at low speeds, incredibly snatchy, horrible on bad surfaces. Amazing on the few twisty stretches I got to try it on properly, just genius- I'd love one for a track bike- but by the time I got to a good road I was already sick of it. I'd go Aprilia if I wanted a big sports twin, personally, with my riding ability the old RSV-R is no slower than the SP1, but far better all round. Obviously it's like that by design but you don't need to be iron-bar rigid to handle well, when even the race bikes ended up being bodged to reduce the stiffness that's not a good sign for the road riders :)

the sp1's tank was too small you were filling up every 70miles!, but the sp2's tank is alot bigger, but and an awsome sounding bike!.....castrol colours would most definately be a plus!
