Ok, well I started biking almost 18 months ago now. Bought me a dinky Yam Sr125 which did me proud. I then passed my test 11 months ago and got myself a honda xr250. That was great fun, both on and offroad. All the while I had the xr, I craved a bigger, more road orientated bike and I found everything I wanted in the SV. Gorgeous meaty sounding Vtwin engine and the styling on both new and old shape models is brilliant.
Sadly I had the xr250 stolen. I relied on this bike so I needed a cheap replacement asap. I bought a bandit 600 and that has been doing me proud for the last 4 months. I will mention at this point that I am restricted to 33bhp until next july. However, now that I have got used to a big bike, and will soon be starting working full time I am considering buying one of my dream bikes. A naked pointy SV650.
So the only point to this thread really is for you guys to convince me that I should sell the bandit and buy the SV. Advice/experience/pictures all welcome
Thanks

You want an SV because you are jelous of me having an SV
:D
I don;t know if the SV will actually be a better bike, it certainly wont be worse, at the least it will be equal. It might be easier to ride than the IL4 bandit, because of the low down torque. Oh, and I know you like your bling; bling and SV's go together like a rapper and...bling
Oh, and the sound.

You want an SV because you do.

SVs are accepted to be better restricted that IL4 restricted due to their power being developed lower down in the rev range. Also, there is a reason Bandits are called "Blandits" ;)
Also, if you buy off members of this site, you can be reasonably sure that you won't be ripped off, and that the SVs have been well looked after. Sv-robo's bike is one of the nicest I have seen personally, and Yorkie Chris is one of the best spannerers on this site too, so his bike should be mechanically very sound (don't make me a liar here Chris!)
One final point, I bought a naked SV which I thought looked way better than the faired model. But now I kind of want a faired one, due to a number of factors such as touring ability, windblast, riding position. Evaluate why you want a naked; mine is great for round town, really comfy sit-up position, but as soon as I try to go really fast or really far it becomes a pain.
Good luck man, SVs are enourmous fun for the amount of money they cost!

Well you have 4 options to choose from:
1) Faired Curvey - (see my signature) More of a classic bike, carberettors.
2) Naked Curvey - as above but know fairings
3)Faired Pointy (as above - nicest SV ive ever seen - tastefully modified) Fuel injected
4) Naked pointy - Fuel injected, No fairing.
Got the loudness even with the stock can but to enhance it you might consider buying a slip on or go all out on a full system, low down torque, nice looks, middle range bike, good on insurance and good for restriction like me!!
All in all a good bike to own ( however im selling mine so might be being a bit of a hypocrit lol! But i do reccomend it as a good bike to have!

My first big bike was a Bandit. Then I bought my SV and didn't know it was restricted. I preferred it to my Bandit. Nuff said!
Simple- once you had one, you wont be able to go without it :D

You want one, you need one, you know you need one.... you know you need to click the link in my sig...
Because of the noise they make for one thing.I went to work one day and some bloke came up to me and asked if I ride past his village which I do on a bypass. I said I did waiting for a bollocking for being too noisy and he just said "yeah that sounds f****** gorgous". Ducati's are probably the nicest sounding bike you can get but with a decent exhaust system like the full race M4 on mine they sound just as good but they take years of abuse unlike ducati's. sv's are pretty good to ride aswell.

I had a 600 Bandit on an '05 for the 1st year after passing my test, I sold that and brought a 2000 black curvy SV after taking a friends out for an hour. The SV was much more fun, flickable around the corners and felt much more forgiving than the Bandit if small mistakes where made!
(The SV is that good I've just traded the naked 00 curvy for a faired 06 pointy! Didn't even think of looking at different bikes):D

An SV because it will do everything this side of 130 mph with panache and a glorious sound track.

A year is a fairly long time on 33hp.
I would go for an SV simply for the V twin engine and it's more fun / useable delivery of 33hp - and that the rest of the bike is well suited and good looking is a bonus!
A few months on 33hp I would go for an IL4. something around 1200cc :p

I have a k5 pointy with an ecu restriction and up to about 70 or 80 you cant tell its restricted! The bikes lighter, faster and nicer than a bandit and being a v-twin, it has all the low down torque so compared to a restricted bandit it will blow it away. Also its as cheap to insure as the bandit. Go on you know you want to!!!:D

Few years back I test rode the Bandit 600 but bought the 1200 for the power. Tossed that aside awhile back....too heavy. The SV fills the bill just right;
light and nimble
flat torque curve
sporty without the drama (R6..gotta rev it to the moon to keep it happy)
I'm happy....c'mon man, get on the bandwagon....give in to the urge:sunny:
buy mine - ?2100
