Having a problem with my CBR600 RR 2003, home DIY electrics done by previous owner needs some attention.
It's currently cutting out at high revs when in neutral so need to get it fixed for Rockingham. We can easily reproduce this problem by blipping to the red line a few times and it dies :(
So can anyone recommend me a good bike electritian in area?
I bloody hate electrics so count me out. I also don't know of anyone in the local that could help. At least not by recommendation. I assume you have checked the loom and wiring for any signs of rubbing, shorting or bad connections :?:

Why would you be @ high revs in neutral?
Anyways, might be worth sourcing a replacement loom and swapping out the bodged one.
Just be glad its not a Duc 999 - aparently a new loom for one of them is £300 and it will cost you £800 in labour to get those nice Ducati Dealers to fit it for you.

Yes, tried to tape/tie down as many loose wires without success.
It's also real mess around the manifold so would like the whole wiring loom to get a once over check by someone :smt102

Ta, have started looking on ebay for replacement looms but stuggling to find one for 600RR.
Took it to brands yesterday and it was cutting out when it was reved excessively, took tank off and taped wires, got the bike to last longer... but after engine cut out about 4 times... I was told the bike couldn't go out on track again and rightly so... we then took my bike to the car park and tried reving bike to identify the problem. Hence reving in neutral ;)

Thinking about this logically (and not really from an electricians view point)
When you rev the engine you push more power from the generator to the reg/rec.
Could it be you are overloading something.
I would expect electrical issues to be consistant no matter the revs, but it may be a vibration thing.
I am not an ELECTRICIAN btw :)

We're pretty sure it's vibration\electrical thing :(
Got to be worth a post in...

?
EDIT: Otherwise grab the multimeter, soldering iron and insulation tape/ check earth points etc :-( ?
I know nothing.
are the electrics a chopped up normal or is it running total loss? - and was it just at high revs when it cut out on the track?
(not that answers'll mean anything to me)
Your mission, should you choose to accept it....
Good luck

Anyone heard of Black Dog Motorcycles? Funnily enough, they're moving their workshop over to Staines today so will pop over tomorrow :)

I'd follow Sosha's advice, I know its not for SVs but you need to post this where the real boffins will see it, most of us lot apart from Ape maybe will have no idea! Does sound Soulkiss is thinking along the right lines, but Sid Squid would know for sure I'm guessing.
Or just ride it under 5000rpm :-P

At a guess, I would have suggested the ideal place to post would be the technical section of a CBR600RR forum.
I'd also suggest seeing as the loom has been tampered with, it would actually take a physical look before being able to give a specific diagnosis.

Has it had new HT leads at any point? could be worth swapping them and trying that.

Thanks for all the tips, dropped the bike off already. Black Dog Motorcycles are only down the road in Staines, he's just putting sign up and should be open some time next week. Said he'd take a look and give wiring a once over for us... he's actually someone we met in the pub before :)
So is it fixed then? isit isit isit????? :smt101
Just dropped mine in for a service so hopefully nothing'll turn up broken before monday...

But on plus side, the other bike is being returned tomorrow ;)
Jon, you have pm :D

Not good news... test rode it and it cut out again. Back to the drawing board, going to disconnect power commander and the ignition unit and try again :smt089
That really is crap. I assume the place you took it to said they couldn't fix it :(
So it'll be the 'onda then :?:

Rubbish! Boo! Brings back distant memories of ragging a NC30 round a closed British gas carpark in a (failed) effort to find out what was up with it (seriously gummed carbs set up to run without air filter if memory serves)
Got stopped by the police pushing it home.
"Should have got a CBR" he said
"Nah girls bike...totally gutless" Brother said

They've just taken over Giffords of Staines and in process of opening shop.

Yeah, totally rubbish and when I test rode it yesterday, some guy on a honda tourer stopped to help. Commented on being surprised it was having electrical probs being a honda... so briefly explained the dodgy diy electrics
So next update, have bought a wiring loom of fleabay for £24 so they're going to replace the existing one today. Hopefully hear from them later... all cutting bit fine for the rock. Hope everyone else is sorted by now...

Cheers Flibble.
I was gutted when Giffords closed. Aparently the owner went bankrupt.

Well i still have no rear tyre thanks to mark at ride-In not being able to get hold of a Z6! at this rate I'll be on the bloody ZZR (I've heard a top box adds at least 20mph on the track  ).
Really hope the new loom sorts it - I'm sure it will. I know how frustrating it is, I eneded up just bypassing my SV "safety" switches for the track day cos they kept killing the engine mid corner - nice.

Give FWR a call - they've always had whatever I wanted in stock - and if they've got one (or can get one), pop over to Kennington tomorrow. £89.99 for a 150/70 and they'll do a ride-in service.

Having seen the amount of oil that was covering your boot, I'd be mighty surprised (and a little worried) if your bike passed scrutinising. Unless that is you have fixed already.

Better idea, spend a little more in time and money and go to Essential Rubber.
Wouldn't go near FWR after the reviews they have had, highlights including not re-fitting a front caliper correctly (fell off 20 feet up the road) and not being able to rivet a chain together properly (I was behind the bike that was done on when it failed)

Fibble, are you sure the coils are OK? I've seen this on cars that cut out at high revs when the coil overheats and cuts the spark. How long does it take to start running again? Is the bike injected or carb'ed? Also how good is the battery and charging system? When the engine cuts do the lights/other electrics still work?

Cheers for help, it's injected & battery's good. Bike's now running. Not really sure what the problem was...
As we needed to get it working for the rock, we ended up taking out the mess of wires along with the power commander. It really was a mess, wires hanging over the manifold, random wires cut, earthed, some soldered.. (there are no lights, indicators as it's a track only bike).
Inserted another wiring loom and its running ok in high revs (so far).... guess it may be either faulty wires/power commander/ignition box or wrong map. Will have to spend some time later in sorting these bits out and putting them back in :(
