I work in Leicester city centre (have done for 4 years) and have lived in Leicestershire all my life (22 years...) so far.
Moving up to Manchester in the middle of July but can still help out!
It really comes down to your budget, and what you want/need.
Expensive areas to go for:
Clarendon Park, Knighton, Stoneygate
Cheaper areas to avoid:
Braunstone Town (Braunstone South is ok), New Parks, Parts of Beaumont Leys.
Areas that are somewhere inbetween:
Aylestone, Westcotes (the 'west end'), Fosse, Western Park
Areas that have a very dense ethnic population: (you may prefer it)
Spinney Hills, Latimer, Belgrave. (Aka, Melton Road area)
That's the city anyway. There are other options on the suburbs that might be worth considering: Desford village, Leicester Forest East, Oadby, Thurnby, Glenfield, Kirby Muxloe, Enderby.
All depends what your priorities are: eg, garage for the bike, near to motorway, etc...

It's also worth remembering all of the outlying areas within about 15 minutes of Leicester. These include villages such as Sheepy Magna, Markfield, Market Bosworth and Thornton; more urban areas such as Hinckley and Earl Shilton and smaller more rural towns such as Atherstone in Warwickshire which is less than 20 minutes from Leicester.

My dad lives in Hugglescote, near Coalville. Nice place and close to both M1 and M42

Hate to say it, but with the exception of Markfield, those places are further afield than 10/15 minutes away from Leicester. (Unless it's 2am in the morning and you're averaging 100mph plus... ;))
Thanks for the info all.
Will be heading down for an interview in next few weeks.
Going to grab a hotel in Hinckley and check it out.
Cheers
