View Full Version : Ants: My latest Hobby
I was in the backroom yesterday watching a truly awful movie about mummies (FYI: Sands of Obvlivion, http://www.imdb.co.uk/title/tt0977663/) when i noticed a gazillion ants on the table next to my beer. Cheeky bleeders!
Today, I've put the white poweder down in the cracks by the floors indoors & I've been boilng kettles full of water & attacking the cracks outside where I've seen ant movement.
After pouring water down the cracks I then go out 1/2 hour later to check for further movement.
Keen not to be seen to taking the back foot (Attack being the best for m of defence) I've now started a fire to smoke the rest of the little devils out.
No-one touches my pint....! ;o)

and if that doesn't work... grenades?!
Use their own ways against them.
Ants leave scent trails so the other ants can follow to wherever the location they're after is. If you terrorise a few enough so that they bail back out the way they came, they'll leave a 'don't go near there!!' scent.
I caught a scout checking out my flat once a few years back and proceeded to give it some close calls (finger bombing really close) 'til it panicked and retreated back out. Only a couple more ventured in, they got the same reception.
I had no more ants after that and didn't have to kill even one.
Designated 'no go' zone by the scouts.
Get a job hippy

I had an epic run in with the critters on Saturday.
Pulled a bag of grass clippings off the lawnmower and found about 50 eggs and a platoon of the little uns.
(the warmth from the decay + the ambient room temperature of the shed got them nice and comfortable I think)
I picked the mower cover up, and carefully took it out to street where I tipped them all off gently. They started collecting their eggs (one each, held above their little ant heads) and legging it in a massive straight line to somewhere else dark and warm, my garage.
I was amazed at their teamwork and cooperation.
Then I killed them all with ant powder.
I'm going to hell anyway I think.
I hate ants. (and decs)

Nippon. They carry it back to the nest and poison the whole nest. I really like ants and am interested in them, but have no patience for them in my house/garage.

WD40 down the entrance holes stops 'em in their tracks.

Best way to get rid of ants as long as it is outside is to get a can of lighter fuel, as you can direct it straight into the entrance to the nest, then light it. :smt073
This works much better than boiling water and powder unless it is inside your house/shed/garage etc.
