I think it's about 10 miles south of Chips n Ham, Avon M/C tyre are made there.

Correct! it is just down the 350 from chippenham and the Avon M/C tyres and Car tyres are made here. infact i work at the very place they are made!! ;)

its actually quite intresting seeing how they are made and all the processes that go on to make a round bit of rubber that most of us take for granted!!

Then there's a chance we have met, I did a factory tour a few years ago. There's me thinking they just mould liquid rubber round a canvass shell. If they still do tours its certianly an eye opener.

I bought Avons on the strength of the tour, good decision IMO.

org discount on Avons then??

dunno about a .org discount but i most deffinatly do!! :) 30% on car tyres, although if you know the right people and you agree to test them, most things are possible.... just have to let them know how they perform and how many miles have done, any problems etc... :) although it helps if you work here!!

Don't know if we still do the factory tours to members of the public, i am forever going out and lookin about talkin to people in the factory so i could look in to it if some people are intrested. its alot more indepth then just some liquid rubber in a mould!!!

'nother Swindonite here.
I thought I would try the Storms on my Blackbird and in my opinion they have performed better than the recommended Bridgestone BT20s in terms of "stickyness" AND wear rate.

Which Avons are you using on the SV Moggsy?

Welcome PC by the way

I am also from Swindon I run the Avon storm ST Tyres on my K6 pointy although it took 2 front tyre changes to find a round one!! Talk about quality control problems if you pass a tyre that is clearly oval.. Still no problems with them now I have a round one and nearly 6k miles out of the rear so far!

Not sure who would be interested, but theres a meet every week at the Red Lion in Avebury (Britains most haunted pub apparently, so Derek Accora says!). slap bang next to the standing stones.

Went on wednesday for a beer and burger and there must have been 150+ bikes there, only downside was following a police X5 all the way from swindon !!!

I'm not there next wednesday due to work but will be most weds if the weathers ok.

Used to go there last year, but I'm usually otherwise engaged on a Wednesday now. Its not bad some nice machines turn up now and again, but its far to heavily policed over the height of the summer.

Its much nicer as the season is getting over as theres no police you can have a good little play if you're coming out of Swindon. Plus you can park in the front car park.

I once went after work in October, it was tipping it down. Parked up had a cuppa then went to look at the bikes. What a disappointment, there was only mine in the car park. Fair weather bikers... grumble... grumble...

Long time reader, first time poster. Thought I'd make the effort for the local 'massive'. Just bought a nekkid '99, call it old yeller. Coming atcha from the the capital of Wiltcher. That's Trowbridge, if you ain't from 'round 'ere.

This is my first SV after years of sports bikes and off-roaders. It's kind of a pleasant median between the two! However, my first ride, back from picking it up, was all highs and lows: engine is great, punchy and tractable, but the 30k-old suspension is flaccid and wallowy. Elka shock and Hyperpro springs are on there way, to be fitted at the weekend by myself; pointless paying someone else to do it on such a cheap bike. These mods will be followed swiftly by new tyres, and hopefully everything will then be peachy. Just the brakes, ignition barrel (so worn a lollypop stick would get it running) and a load of other 'details' to sort out. Be seeing you.
