Do you know what- I love my Ibanez (despite the crack in the neck), but I have been eyeing up ESP guitars recently. The MH1000 with the floyd rose is just gorgeous in see through blue.

So- I think I'm going to launch a dream custom guitar fund and save up for a 7 string custom of it in see through aqua. Those quilted tops are gorgeous...

I am looking to purchase an ESP LTD Alexi 200. Played one a while back, really liked it; nice wide, fast neck and easy to get pinch harmonics out of it.
And its pointy.

Don't be lazy, you can pinch the hell out of a Strat if you know how to ;)

Yeah- just crank the distortion up and get those harmonics squealing!
Check out Ibanez guitars too, Matt- they are good on price and I hear that the necks are a little more robust these days (mine wasn't- fell of a stand, cracked, was repaired, fell of a stand again- the crack opened a little again, but it's still playable. Before you ask, I'm a klutz and my stands are 15 years old!)
The fretboards are wide and flat- lovely for fast, accurate playing, but need to be a little higher up your body, unless you're Steve Vai, who swings his Jem from the hips!
I really want a 7 string- the John Petrucci model looks nice too, but pricey again.

Was thinking of one of those a couple of years back - it would have to have been non-trem for me.

again, another guitar that gave me the horn. There used to be one in the window of a shop down Denmark St. Guitar porn. Better than bike porn.
I sold all my guitars to finance my bike trip...well, all except my absolute favourite that I got imported from Japan:

No, 24 surley!!!!!
(i've never used more than 22 though :D)
Dirk, that is a nice guitar, but no floyd rose trem :( i'd be lost without my floyd rose, no pinch harmonic whammy bar dives dives!!!!

Duh! yeah- meant to edit that, but at work and had to close the internet for a sec...
I'm a floating trem lover meself (Floyd or Edge or quality equivalent). Though I've played my Epiphone Black Beauty over so many gigs in the past (400 ish) that it fits and feels totally natural to play. I have to adjust when switching from that and my strats (chunkier neck) to my Ibanez (skinny as hell neck and mega wide flat fretboard).
I love all my guitars for their differences, but all need working on- perhaps I should get that done instead of dream of getting a new one!

Nothing feels beter to play than a freshly set up, repaired guitar. I spent ages a while back really sorting out my jackson, I even did the friggin intonation which I found difficult, but it plays so nice now.
The only prob I have with floyd rose is its not easy to detune / retune (i.e. metallica is in E to e tuning, children of bodom is in D to d, all strings down a full step), so when i wanna go play somethig that is in the differant tuning, I have to spend ages detuning. So another gutiar would be great for the detuned stuff, I can put on slightly heavier (.10) gauge strings on is aswell to retain some grunt in the tone.
:D

The other thing you need to think about there is that the springs on the floyd are set to the tension of the strings in the standard eadgbe tuning. So if you change your tuning, the whammy bar will not return to the correct pitch when you use it- a good reason to have 2 guitars!
I think i'll invest in getting my hot rod strat fixed up in the new year (bonus time)- I haven't heard it through my current amp yet and it normally sounds gorgeous on the nasty old marshall valvestate I had...

Funnily enough, I haven't. I use Line6 gear, both a Variax (shoddy 300) and a PodXT Live, and I find them to be great pieces of gear for the money I paid for them, but their amps fail to impress me...

I like the tone I can get from them, and the distortion. Seems to be a...i dunno, deeper tone and noise if you get me, than my marshall amp

I think if you get one of the DSL or TSL marshall amp, they sound great- especially if you can crank it (the 100w amps are switchable down to 25w I think)- but any Marshall that isn't all valve ain't so good. I had a weedy sounding Valvestate 80 (one of the originals) that was my workhorse amp for 'undreds of gigs- but I eventually got sick of it.
The line 6 stuff is great- really sounds good. As does Amplitube or equivalent on the computers. But I'm still a valve purist at heart.
I've got a Mesa/Boogie Nomad 45- gorgeous tone, even with standard Ibanez pickups. Does that lovely spangly Fender clean tone (gorgeous for Les Pauls), plus anything from classic distortion to modern super distortion.
But it's a MkIII or MkIV head and 2x12 or 4x12 I'd love most! Just don't do enough with the music at the mo to justify spending any more cash on it...
Mind- if you're on a budget, Marshalls and Mesas are not really the ones to be looking at.
Peavey amps are pretty good- solid, dependable and good tone, even without valves. You can't go wrong with a Peavey Bandit.

Got one of the originals, the Bandit 75. Sounds hard as nails, it's heavier than a very heavy thing, but it still rocks.

They do take a bit of lugging about, don't they?
My Boogie is the same- compact, great sounding, weighs more than a blue whale!

The one and only time i played a PRS, i really wanted to love it, to think "wow, what a great guitar!"
But i couldnt
The shop hadn't looked after it; the fret board was dry, the strings old and corroded, everyting set up badly
Shame, cos PRS guitars look nice. At that time, I would have had one....then I went all metal and now I like pointy guitars :smt096
