View Full Version : Why does my Arai lid not have an ACU gold sticker on it?

All Arais are ACU gold approved ... I noticed today that my new Arai lid doesn't have one of those little Gold ACU stickers on the back!!! Any ideas? Do I have to request one? Or have I been sold a dud?

Did you get it from a genuine Arai UK dealer?

Yeah i thought all arai's were acu approved.
I'd just ring up ACU house and i'm sure they would send you a new one.

Well I got it from a well established 'motorcycle accessories' shop, not just some random bloke down the pub, yes.
I am wondering if it is an import or something? Should that make a difference?
was it jhs or j&s?
you can get the stickers on ebay (if you need one for the track)
edit......... has it got its birthday stamped on the chinstrap?
If you just bought it take it back it should have a GOLD ACU STICKER on the back, if you do a track day they will not let you on the track with out the GOLD ACU STICKER I think. On some helmets if you remove the sticker it says void underneath.

J&S.
I looked for its DOB, on the D-Ring strap, but I couldn't find it ... it just says "This helmet is warranted as serviceable.... 5 years .... no more than 7" ... etc
Where is the DOB compared to that? ... it says Go8 on the on the D-ring side of the strap ...
sounds like an import......
i heard j&s were selling imports, im not sure what the differance is, the DOB should be on the leather bit of the chinstrap.
how long have you had it?
i dont think arai will service imports

I can't see it on the chinstrap else I would have said I did!!!!
As for how long, I only just got it today!!!

well if its not there and theres no gold sticker and you got it from j&s....... its an import.
arai sets the prices of their helmets. so i guess you got it cheaper?
Would you be able to take it back?
Do they not have to display anything saying that the helmets are imported?

But why would an import NOT have an ACU stamp or a DOB? ... also remember, the other wording on the strap is in English (not Jap or summin), how can I tell if it is an import?
the arai RX7 is £500. but you can get them on the net for £375 and j&s is selling them for £425.
i dont know what the differance is, but if it does not have the gold sticker, you cant do track days, and i think all helmets must have the gold sticker to be road legal (although im not 100% sure)
how can I tell if it is an import?
try the arai site?
but j&s are nott offical arai dealers
Arai is so serious about maximizing your satisfaction with your new Arai’s comfort, fit and service that Arai reserves the right to not honor the warranty of any Arai helmet sold by an unauthorized e-dealer, or by an individual sale through a general web e-commerce portal or auction site.
It could be a us or european import. ACU i believe is only a uk requirement?
Id phone J&S and ask them instead of asking us numpties:)

On mine the Date of Birth label is on the bit of the strap that goes through the D ring. Not on the bit of the strap with the D Rings on it.

That's cobblers, they only have to pass ECE-R2205.

Right I phoned the lass at Portsmouth J&S ... I didn't actually ask if it was an import, just asked why it had no ACU and why there was no DOB ... she said sometimes they don't put the ACU stickers on - they had some there and could put one on if I took it in (is that dodgy or what?!?!!?) - and she said the date isn't always on the chinstrap ... sometimes it can be 'on the crown' ... to be fair I can't see it there either  ...

It HAS got ECE22-05 on the back (exactly like that, I didn't put a dash in).
which helmet is it......... and was it cheaper than arai rrp ?
J & S sell imports Arai's. My dad went and asked them straight up and the boss wouldn't say it wasn't an import. It was good enough for my dad to look else where. When i had trouble with mine they took it back without a second thought. Great service from phoenix soon sorted my helmet. I'm not sure J & S would be able to send theres to Phoenix as easy as that if there was any problems.

In which case it's road legal for use in the UK, but as others have said without the ACU sticker it may not be allowed on track. Get one, and it will.
Hein Gericke stuck one on my Arai for me after I'd removed it by accident, without checking it came from them (which it had).
The only problem if it IS an import will be getting warranty service, but if it doesn't need it, then you'll be fine with nowt to worry about. It's perfectly legal and safe.

I am not farmiliar with the "ECE22-05" designator (yes I know I could look it up :D) .. is that the BS stamp? In which case it is a UK lid right???
I am pretty miffed that I bought it from a main-brand/reputable high-street shop and yet I have to question its authenticity and that it might not be covered under Arai's blanket UK service!!

From my experiences abroad all Arai's have there D.O.B stamped in the same place, not all Arai's are ACU approved so its worth checking to see if that model is.
If the helmt is an import then you should have been told (or informed with a notice) that the item was not destined for UK distribution.
J&S have no authority to place an ACU sticker on the helmet legally.
Speak to Phoenix Distribution (http://www.phoenixnw.co.uk/index.html) about all of this, they are the official inporter of Arai products into the UK.

Aha! Aug 07 makes sense ... but it is deffo a smaller character ... it looks like Go6 not G06 ... it might just be a smaller 0?
it says (exactly) "ECE22-05" NOT "ECE22.05", it has a '-', not a '.'.
It does have a little orange tag with E4 on it on the strap too .... so after all this, are we concluding it IS a UK lid, the DOB is on there (just coded, as 'Go8' not just summin like '0807')?? ... what is the DOB on other people modern Arais look like?

Yeah i thought all arai's were acu approved.
I'd just ring up ACU house and i'm sure they would send you a new one.
Or he could ask me nicely and I'll post him one for free.
I bought a chaser from crossans (thevisorshop), exactly the same, code is G11 on the strap orange tag is E4 . I e-mailed them about the missing acu sticker seems they should stick them on at the shop and it had been missed . They sent me one in the post .
Crossans were very good to deal with by the way, paid full price but got a free genuine smoked pinlock visor and helmet bag delivered free .

Ok, just as an update.
J&S online have apologised for the inconvenience, sent me a ACU sticker thorough the post (FOC) and clarified it is a UK lid etc not an import or second.
In all fairness, you can't overly grumble at that can you ...
Just thought I'd add that as there was a fair amount of dirt and accusations that had been thrown around in this thread ..
So in short, I now don't feel like I have been 'seen' by J&S ... their customer service was good, what can you say apart from :smt023
Well well just checked out the shoei xr1000 that I purchased from J & S and guess what , no acu sticker and no dob and no ECE22-05 sticker either so phoned them up and been told it's ok if its got E6 label on the visor and linning which I suspect is b******s because these are interchangable.

The important number is the longer approval number which must begin 05.

Helmets bearing any one of the undermentioned "standard" marks could be approved by the ACU if deemed to conform with certain additional criteria considered necessary for helmets used in motorcycle sport. Helmets so approved will carry the ACU transfer in gold or silver.

may be granted 'White' approval)
The only indication that a helmet is suitable for immediate use in motorcycle sport is the ACU gold or silver stamp firmly affixed. It is considered that any person selling a helmet for competition use as "ACU Approved" without an approval stamp firmly affixed IS making a false trade description.
GOLD APPROVAL
The minimum standard for Road Racing, Sprints, Drag Racing, Hill Climb and any speed events held wholly or part on bound metalled surfaces.
SILVER APPROVAL
