Oh is that all, theres bigger ones that come creeping out of the baptism pit in my other halfs house.
Now if one of them came out of your jacket, you'd mistake it for a tirantula.......eeeeww

I would say that you found yourself there a common house spider, the problem with identifying a particular species is that it is rather hard even with the photos you have provided.

The most likely explanation is that you have a male spider looking for a mate, he does not look very large, a leg span of about an inch? Generally the males are the smaller and if you can see the pedipalps, they often have enlarged ends that are used to grip the female during mating.

I trust that you have not recently return to the UK from foreign lands? One lad I knew brought a very dangerous spider back from somewhere hot in his sleeping bag. Fortunately the cold British winter slowed it down enough that we could catch it in a glass and study it before doing the kindest thing and euthanasing it.

My last spider was a Honduran Curly Hair Tarantula and she was absolutely beautiful if a little bitey... I had her as a rescue because her previous owner was told by the landlord of her residence that she could not keep pets. Sadly that is how I lost her too. Damn Landlords and their irrational fears of poisonous pets...:smt027

My dads firm gets containers from foreign parts, like the far east. There's some monstrous f###ers get caught in them. Weirdest day at work ever, killing 3.5inch spider with a shovel lol.

"A little bitey" Er just how poisonous are they?

Ruby was quite small when she bit me for the first time and although it was not terribly painful, once that had worn off it itched like crazy for several days.

Honduran Curly Haired Tarantulas are not massively poisonous, but can be very bad tempered see attached link.

http://arachnophiliac.info/burrow/caresheets/brachypelma_albopilosa.htm

As for Ruby, when ever I cleaned her out she would rear up exposing her inch long fangs and would be ready to bite. I was a little nervous of her when I had to handle her because I knew what she was like and I found the best method of moving her was to push her into her flower pot with a pencil and just lift out the whole pot.

The other issue with them is the defensive measure they use to repel a predator, they rub their back legs over their abdomen and send out a dust of fine barbed hairs that can be very painful if they get in your eyes. The bite is mainly used to feeding.

Unlike snakes, it is not possible to de-venom a spider because they need the venom to digest prey, both fascinating and revolting to watch as a Locust is impaled on the fangs, injected with venom and drained of juices. I used to have to feed the locusts special cereals to ensure that they contained enough minerals for Ruby because she would never eat her peas!:D

Soulkiss, you are a very naughty little biker!

Every one should try beaver once, I do quite often and I am vegetarian.
Mind you being a vegetarian was easy, I was never into meat.

Its a camel spider, and not actually a spider but a member of the scorpion family.

Some common Camel Spider Myths:
1. Camel spiders can move at speeds over 30 MPH, screaming while they run.
2. Camel spiders can be as large as a frisbee.
3. Camel spiders venom is an anesthetic that numbs their prey.
4. Camel spiders can jump three feet high.
5. Camel spiders get their name because they eat the stomachs of camels.
6. They eat or gnaw on people while they sleep. Due to the numbing effect of their venom, the victim is unaware until they awake.
7. Send us your myths for inclusion here...

THE FACTS

1. Camel spiders top speed - appox. 10 mph. Which is very fast.
2. Size: Up to 6 inches although many of our readers report larger.
3. They have no venom.
4. They don't jump. However, many of our readers describe them leaping onto their legs, etc..
5. Called camel spiders because they live in the desert.
They actually aren't spiders at all, they're solpugids.. Along with spiders, they are members of the class Arachnida

:D Camel Spiders are kind of cute, I heard that although desert creatures, they prefer shade which is how people come across them when we knock up the odd tent or two.

Coincidentally, my old house mate had a pet scorpion called Bufu (a name taken from a dictionary of gay slang!), but when the time came for it to shed its first skin, it turned onto its back, the skin failed to split and the poor little bugger died. My friend was really upset because she loved that scorpion, she used to hold it and stroke its back, but was never stung because it was rather tame (for a scorpion). ;)

However, once she was in the pub, she hid the body in her friends purse as a joke. You should have heard the scream...:smt087

Just look at that for a moment. Once you look past the segmented body and huge hairy legs.

Look at it's head. No it's head- those are it's claws.

It looks a bit daft when you really give it a good look. Real tiny pinhead with a couple of eyes and it's forward view is obscured by it's enormous club hands.

Awww bless!

(wouldn't like to be nipped by one though- bet they still have a bit of a sting to 'em!)

WARNING NEXT TIME PLEASE IN THE TITLE!!!!!

If that crawled out of my jacket I'd be stripped naked in seconds flat and running around slapping myself screaming like a banshee. That's exactly the reason I don't keep my kit in my garage. Nearly crashed once cos of a spider in the middle of my steering wheel. I must've looked like a nutter kicking the *** out of the steering wheel once I'd stopped! I've recently moved my air pistol to the garage as I've got some monsters in there. Spiders in my garage are one of the reasons I didn't get out a lot on the SV. :(
