Yesterday morning, riding home from work, I was overtaken at a roundabout by a white van.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the driver then cut me up as I exited from the roundabout. The exit only has one lane, so the sensible thing to do would have been for him to stay on the right hand side of the lane and complete the overtake. Instead, he drove towards me, sandwiching me between the kerb and his van and forced me onto the pavement as I'd run out of road, before speeding off.

Three car drivers who'd witnessed the fiasco stopped to help as did a few pedestrians. A couple of people had managed to get the registration details of the van. The police were called so hopefully this lunatic will get his just desserts!!

According to witness statements, the white van had been weaving erratically through busy traffic on the dual carriageway that leads up to the roundabout and had already forced one of the cars out of his way.

I guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

At least you have witnesses prepared to help, I expect a decent outcome!

Sound like it should be sorted by the police, just wrong place wrong time...

So long as the witnesses with give statements, a due care is on the cards!

Well done for keeping it shiny side up,

Pete

B*stard hope he does get done. Atleast you didn't get hurt, no need to put others at risk just to gain a few yards!!!

Rubber still in contact with tarmac = result.

Nice one for keeping it upright, hope you're not too shaken and the driver gets bummed.

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. I had a similar event when I was in the car, on the bike would be awful!

I had a very close call too recently. On my ride in to Norwich a woman in a littel Citroen under-took me doing 30 on the ring road. She then tailgated the bike infront and tried to push her way through for several hundred yards. She eventually turned off, fortunately without knocking either of us off.

glad you're ok dude, I had a hairy moment on a roundabout yesterday some idiot woman in a saxo just tried to pull onto the roundabout without looking almost straight infront of me, she then had the cheek to mouth off at me through the window!

Well done for keeping it rubber side down Melody...glad you're okay. The van was prolly nicked and he was prolly trying to get some distance between himself and the rozzers/owner, or he just needed the loo???
Hopefully if it was the latter, he shat himself and stained the seat of his van!

That's a reason to remove paint and wing mirrors to me. I've heard some people might have even put their fist straight through the window and chinned the offending cager. Or so I've heard.

Hey Mel sorry to hear about this chick, have you had any feedback from the Police, have they managed to trace the veh from the registration plate?

From looking a bit deeper it sounds like he was trying to get away from something or somewhere and you were unlucky enough to be in his path.

Glad you are ok and kept it upright, persue the driving offence if you can, may seem more minor as time goes on but could have been worse.

From being on traffic div the local scum who are up to no good tend to treat other roads users that way if they are fleaing, may be caught for more than just traffic offences.

The van had cloned plates on it!

They could have done more than just frighten the life out of me and got away with it. So a lucky escape for me really.

Things like cloned plates are just too common these days. I had a stupid woman in a silver car today trying to take my space in a (30mph) queue as I moved out to look ahead of the van in front, to see if it was clear to go.

I was forced to move back to the middle of my lane to make it clear I was still occupying that space. I also had to hang back a fair bit to see enough round the van from my enforced position in the middle of the lane...and as she insisted on braking quite late & close, I had to increase the gap in front of me even more!

She did then want to move to the lane next to me to try and overtake (it was going same speed/slightly slower) so in the name of safety I had to nip through the two lanes and b*gger off in front :smt077

So to the woman who can't drive...sorry for holding you up...not *cackle cackle*

I love doing this sort of thing to t*ssers but it's a risky business as we all know!

could that be classed as a hit and run even though he didnt make contact?? As he didnt come back to exchange details??

Cloned! How awful, and how easy to do :(

Arguably off-topic, went for a ride ending up somewhere near Thame at the weekend, some idiot woman in front of me in a small car, in front of her was a bike. In 60 bits bike flies off, I stuck behind car as i didn't find a nice spot and am a big girl, we get to 40 zone, car carries on at 50 and then gets up bike's bum and keeps braking! Back up to 60 bike wizzes off, she stays at 50. 30 zone and repeat! I got a bit mad after a while of this and did a bit of gesturing at her, then managed to calm myself down and turned off! Didn't want to overtake her as I didn't want her getting up MY bum. :/ Hohum.

had a white van swerve into my lane this evening on the way back from work - had to gas it to nip through the ever closing gap. managed to keep my cool tho, don't want an angry white van man behind me at the lights.

filtered through and on my way, all good. keep your wits about you people.
