DK's........

Be very careful, ensure the headlight is UK. Ask if it is an import. If not get them to state it in writing, if it is. Demand a huge discount.

Check for the E11 on the headlight.

Remember your insurance is likely to go up as well if it is an import

I like them a lot. Probably the best looking SS600 in my opinion. Quite possibly my next bike.

Do it.......and gissa go missus.

Nah I like this colour, the graphite. Goes with my kit as well, being a girlie I will have to be colour coded.

As soon as I can drive I am gonna go and take a peek, althought I know I can touch the floor better on the R1 than the R6 but I think I would end up mush by the end of the journey home.

For anyone that has been in a car with me they will understand.

Oh and thanks for the DK tip, I will check insurance out before I buy ..... before I get in debt and the banks buys LOL

Tiny is good tho, I am not the tallest bird and I needed Daytona Ladystars and a lowered seat for my Pointy and I was still on tip toes.

LOL oh go on then I will buy you one too, which colour?

I have had a few stresses last few months and money being the biggy, few things in my life at mo are looking better apart from the money so if I am gonna worry I may as well really worry but have something to smile about at the same time.

I feel like this today but tomorrow could be a different story .... if only I could drive now I would be at DK's.

How much did you ride the SV?

Stu
19-06-08, 11:06 AM
Just go for a really long test ride to make sure you are happy before getting in debt.
IME the R6 was a bit tall for me. It was way more exciting than a GSXR 750 or CBR600RR. You would probably ride it faster than an R1 so that argument about mush is probably the wrong way round.
If you like it, I wish you well :D

Shellywoozle
19-06-08, 11:13 AM
How much did you ride the SV?

Not much I had the SV Aug 06, passed my test Nov 06 and rode it until Aug 22nd 07 when I had my off. Never rode since due to my arm not being fixed. Got max of 1,500 miles in :(. Had operation now so 6 weeks time I may be able to get back on 2 wheels !

My biggest gripe is I am a short ar$e and the SV riding position hurt my wrists and back, so the R6, I think will be worse.

But I like them and there are not that many tiny sexy bikes that will suit me. Arggghhhh advice needed !!!!

Stu

Have you sat on an R6? The seat height is very tall.

Shellywoozle

Have you sat on an R6? The seat height is very tall.

Yeah sat on it without my boots on and I was tip toes so I'd be ok with the extra height my Daytonas give me..... about the same as the SV I'd think.

If I can get to DK's I will buy if I can't then I won't, fate will have a hand ..... shame I am going to Stoke with a girlfriend this afternoon, hope she will refuse to take me LOL (she not a biker) else I could be even more financially challenged this afternoon :smt087

They are stunning bikes  Well worth getting in debt for :D Are you not tempted by the black GSXRs? They would match your leathers too and they are tiny. Hope your recovery goes well and are back on 2 wheels soon!

If you're not on a positive throttle all the time on that R6 your wrists will be killing you! After prolonged periods round town on my gixxer it's pretty bad but fine once you get going.

Get a long test ride before committing. If you're not sure maybe some bar risers?

I've always thought R6's are the best looking 600, they are very distinctive, so if you're buying on looks, get it. If you're going to do be doing lots of miles in urban areas, you might want to test a gixxer too. Good luck with your purchase!

Cheers,
Matt

Now I am confused LOL... think I wil lhave to wait til its not an impulse buy and go take them out, can't at the mo as my right arm is fuber'd due to Mondays drilling.

What's the hurry, trying to buy before you are well enough to test ride?

Not as sexy, but I rekon you would still get a lot of life out of another SV after just 1500 miles

gettin2dizzy
19-06-08, 12:06 PM
Not wanting to be the party pooper but 1500 miles in 2 years, and stuck for cash...

To be honest I'd keep the SV. Have a long hard look at this first as the cost of living is soaring and the future is looking a bit unpredictable.

Dangerous Dave
19-06-08, 12:08 PM
Nice bikes, excellent handling, small in size so for the taller riders there may be comfort issues.

Not the best 600 for the road but not as bad as the ZX6R though.

muffles
19-06-08, 12:09 PM
I'd vote for keeping the SV too, at least until you have actually ridden again? I know you've had a few set backs in your recovery so the last thing you want is a SS600 sat there not being ridden.

ThEGr33k
19-06-08, 12:09 PM
Looks good!

But it probably wouldnt be great if your shaulder isnt 100% perfect as there is a lot of your weight on your arms. You might be better with something a little more laid back... I know they may not look as nice but if its a 600 you want a CBR600FS as its much more comfortable and is a nice bike.

Orrrr get a falco :p

19-06-08, 12:16 PM
I'd be wanting at least a sit on it before you part with cash.

Liz can only get her feet down tip toes on the R6, whereas the R1 she can get both feet flat on the floor.

The R6 has quite a wide seat and if you're short in the leg you'll struggle with it.

Rich
19-06-08, 12:21 PM
Haven't you brought one yet lol. Great looking bikes seem abit track focused for the road though, the seats abit of a plank too. Bet I'd last longer on my gixxer than the R6. You should try the K8 gsxr600 they're suppose to be fantastic roads bikes probably the best ss600 around. I would say that though. :-)

Don't listen to all the party poopers here its your money and why not by a new bike. Mileage isnt everything go on put a smile on ya face it'll only get bigger the more you ride :D

I've sat on it but as everyone has rightly said I need to test drive.

I bought my SV on impulse but that was only £2500 and that didnt work out wonderfully as I was too short LOL.

I have always had my heart on a R6 and will go test ride it in 6 weeks time, which will also give me time to talk nicely to my bank.

Nice to see I have some taste tho and the R6 is liked.

nah...600rr is THE best ss600 on the planet

Shelly...FWIW - I had an extended t/ride on the r6 and it totally killed me. You are constantly boiling the beast. You have to be severely up the revs to appreciate it. It's extremely track focussed and has high and low speed suspension circuits (from what remember). The seat is rock hard and wide so if you're a shorty in the legs dept...

Gixxer was far to small for me - but would probably suit you better - was like riding a mini moto tbh. Great handling and good mid range. That stupid power bandy restrictor thing is totally pointless in my opinion - for a 600 anyway.

600rr is quite tall so you would struggle but for me is just perfect. Honda are doing Interest free credit just now too!

I'd want the CBR too. Not that I've ridden the new one, but the old one was better than the current R6 :D Just nicer to ride, but not any slower in my hands, the R6 might be better when you're cracking on but the CBR is so much better when you're not IMO. (tbh the Last CBR600F was better than both of them in the real world... And not much slower in the imaginary Fast Bikes world either)

Also, the boring sensible people are right, buying a bike you've not ridden is madness tbh. I know it's good retail therapy but it's short term, you'll end up needing wallet therapy for longer :D

DK along with Taz are 2 of the main import motorcycle dealers I think, I thought everything from there was an import. Nothing wrong with an import IMO, as long as you know what you're getting up front, etc. Warranty, etc, should be intact but you sometimes have to be willing to back that up with an argument I gather.

No, 90% are but they both are a proper official dealer for one manufacturer (by proper official I mean the manufacturer agrees that they are a dealer too, not a false claim they make with regard to the other so called manufacturer official dealer comment/advertisement)

I use to have one and loved it! It was the slightly older 06 model, but apart from some styling tweaks and the variable intake tracts off the R1, it's pretty much the same. If I knew what I knew now then I wouldn't have sold it when I moved to Oz, but I'm also very happy with the Daytona 675 that replaced it.

They sound awesome with a stock can - especially when you get near the redline. Contrary to common believe, they do work below 15k rpm - It's just the magazines doing back to back tests with the other 600s, always shows the R6 to be the most focussed.

People complain about achy wrists etc. but I never really had a problem. Anyway, after all it is a sportsbike and if motorway mile munching is your bag, then it is probably the wrong bike anyway.

I would definitely buy another!

My Opinion Shell.

Dont do it.

Wait until you are fit and well, and the shoulder is healed.

The riding position is MUCH more extreme than the SV one - if you cannot ride your SV comfortably then you wont get on with any of the SS600's. Whereas on the SV I was used to seeing my elbows in the mirrors, on a 675 I was seeing my shoulders, I was leant over that far.

Give it time, get back on the SV and get back in to riding on that.

Yeah, but to be fair the GSXR and CBR both do distance very nicely, and though less focussed aren't actually slower.

The new R6 is better than the last one though for that, did you ever see the overlays of the 04 and 06 R6 power curves? Funny... The old one made more power absolutely everywhere, sometimes by a fair bit (up to 5bhp through the mids) until you got to the peak, where the new one made about 3 more bhp for about 1000rpm then fell off again. Fair enough if that's what you want, but it's a bit silly on the road.

I've always found the R6's seat height to be way too tall compared to the SV. The specs show the 2008 R6 as having a seat height of 33.5 inches, whereas the SV is closer to 31. However the 2008 GSXR750 is only 31.9 inches, perfect for short arses like me

LOL Blue has done it again .... albeit hijacked my thread and turned it to smut !!

Think I will always have an R6 fetish they are sexy bikes but as everyone says not good long distance and a bit bad on the wrists. I am not tall and struggle with the SV so would be stupid to go for an R6.

hi everyone,
i have one.
what i will say is that if you around 6" tall or over they will be a pain in the **** for you. just as well i'm 5 6". my mate had ago on mine and luved it especially when it starts whalling around 11 to 12k mark.
he is over 6" and lasted around 15 mins on track before he started to cramp up.
it took a little getting used too it as you seem to be sitting on top of it not in it.

best of luck ..................steve
