View Full Version : Noise coming from exhaust (stuttering)
Hi All,
I need some help please...
When a started my bike (SV650s '99) this morning there was a funny popping sound coming from the exhaust. It sounded like it was backfiring but it was not very loud but pretty frequent. There was a lack of power and it felt like it was struggling with fuel circulation (for lack of a better phrase).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ian

How long since you last used it, was it raining last time you were out?
Maybe a bad dose of fuel, remember, places were running low lately on everything, maybe you got the last cacky bit at a station...
First port of call would be the spark plug, make sure there is no water around there.
Is it a stuttering through revs when you say lack of power?

Sounds like it is running on one cylinder every now and again, check the spark plugs for starters!
Mine does this when I start it. Goes away once everything gets upto temperature. I just thought it was because she was cold? :S

With or without choke, and does it stop when the choke is disengaged?

Only when I give it some choke. Just over-fueling or something?

Lube your choke cable and have a look at the choke/carb system.

Probably more due to the fact that you've got an aftermarket filter. With whatever can and restrictor kit you put on it there's never usually a problem.
