Might get me a Lexus for the daily commute if they're less than a grand....

A fiat for weekends....

And a Vitara in case I turn one day, become a hairdresser, or both...

Yet the 500bhp M3 beat the hybrid car in fuel economy?? Something fishy there...

my merc did 48mpg on the motorway to cornwall, steady 70 all the way, not too bad i thourght, my old vw passat tdi only did 53mpg same journey.

Probably because the Prius was being thrashed and the M3 was just in it's most economical rev range?

I really enjoyed Top Gear. The Fiat police car was tops. I didn't know that they were going so cheap now.

Not at all. Driving a Prius flat out will mean its running on petrol and being thrashed. The M3 (Which is 440hp btw) is probably mearly at tickover so running a lot less stressed. However, if they run the M3 round the track flat out, then id expect to see somewhere in the low 10mpg if not lower.
