Cue running around the house for 15 minutes looking for them, blaming the cats, even emptying the hoover incase they'd gotten sucked up. Went outside to empty hoover bag thingy - and there they are.... in my bike... since Saturday.
And no, I'm not telling you my address :D
found mine in the helmet lock after watching my brother race all day in alton. hours hanging in the poor little lock swinging in the breeze, in a car park! No one took it!

Discovered on Friday that Inveraray is the sort of place where you can leave your keys in the bike, wander off for a coffee and come back 45 minutes later to find it still there.
Which was nice.

you lucky buggers it would be just my luck to do that and someone would elp themselves
I remember one time Alex leaving his key in the SV and with the electrics still on in sainsurys car park - came back to the bike still there - battery flat!
I also remember then pushing the bike up slope in order to jump start :D which was nice!

Sorry Gid, let me clarify......
I've done this many on many ocassions (left my keys in the ignition or seat lock) in many different places (outside my house, at the shops, in car parks) (don't tell my insurance company! (they take a dim view of this when you try to claim but you left the keys in the ignition)). Guess I don't like my bike that much!!! (Surely I would be more careful if I liked my bike?!?!)
HTH! ;-)

I went to Brands quite a few years back and lift the keys hanging from the seat lock. All day they where there harg in the wind. I can be such a bell end sometimes. lol
There's been a good couple of times I've left keys in the ignition, bike parked outside on the road in front of the house, helmet and gloves resting neatly on the tank.
The evening I left my jacket there at the same time, a kind orrificer knocked on the door. "Sir, we've been sitting outside for an hour now, are you intending on taking your bike out tonight?"
Usually we don't see cops around by my house as well, but he'd been visiting the neighbours (a friend of his, so stood outside talking for a while).
Done that!Me too on many occasions. Once was the seafront at Brighton, the set lock at poole harbour, erm...work 3 times, at home. The lst goes on.

:gulp: The Hawaii 5-0 sat outside your house for an hour? That's called a stake out isn't it? Check the house for bugs!
And invest in a good tinfoil hat to stop their thought rays :D

 Nah, the neighbours are quite friendly with a couple of the local cops, so now & again they pop around for a chat. Generally they're in the mood that they couldn't give a whatsit about the law (to the point that one of them moved out of the way so I could illegal park my car last time, I stopped for a little chat, and went in the house).
See, some coppers are OK. :)
Besides, I live in a rural area, and it stops teenagers hanging around drunk outside the house. :)

everyone's done it mate, just count yourself lucky it didn't walk :)
I've an idea which could help with the left in bike problem. Only I can't do electronics.
A small key fob size device that is deactivated (off) when your key is inserted into it. When you key is separated from the device (which you put in your pocket) it's activated. The device detects your key's proximity and remains silent, if you move out of range (say 2m) the device emits an annoying whistle. The only way to stop it is to get back into range or switch it off with the key (or take batteries out I suppose).
So if anyone wants to build my machine you may have the idea as long as you let me have one at no charge.
Sorry if someone has already invented it, and if so how much and where from.

yes i did.. not one of my cleverer moments givent that the bike wasn't insured for theft at the time...:-s
How you managed to bump start it goooord knows...
... idea...
Hmm, interesting. It'd probably eat batteries though, unless it polled at regular intervals. For example:
"Am I near the bike? Yes..." ... wait 10 mins ... "Am I near the bike? Yes..." ... wait 10mins... "Am I near the bike? Feck, no, let the muppet know!"
Maybe bluetooth would work, and give a natural limit of approx 10m....
If only I had the time...
Without having really thought it through it you added a 3rd component into the mix you could make the bit in your pocket passive (RFID tag anyone). So if they key is in your bike but the thing in your pocket isn't detectable the 3rd bit on the bike and powered from it's substantially larger battery attracts your attention. The bit on the bike doesn't bother looking for the bit in your pocket when the ignition is on, nor when the key is not present.

I think thats the system that Kawasaki have used on the 1400GTR, isn't it?
Sounds like the system that a few car manufacturers are offering as an option, anyway - the keyless entry thing they've all got going on.
Went for a sunday lunch with the keys left in the ignition once, not a brilliant area either, luckily the bike was in view.......

Left mine in the ignition and the cover over the bike , hunted for ages , removed half the settee cushions , blamed the dog , moved her bedding and basket , took helmet off as I was getting worked up . Checked the shed , under the settee , kitchen , bedroom , various trousers , spare bike jacket , top of the toilet cistern as I sometimes put stuff there when I go for a widdle ......... everywhere . Decided that I would give the bike a clean instead of going shopping , removed the cover ..... TADAAAAAA .........."DOH!!!!!:smt091"
