View Full Version : Why does life suck?!
My mum has had a lump on her big toe for about a year now, everyone thought it was a corn! However after seeing one doctor about a week and a half ago he decided that they best do a biopsy, results today and guess what its F**CKING CANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smt093
A year, a year she has had this thing and nobody thought to think anything about it and wonder why it wasn't going with the stuff they gave her for the corn?! :smt102
I love my mum to bits and while i moan about her we have got so close since i have kind of grown up. Last monday she had to have her eye lids operated on due to the muslces failing, I'm just wondering what next!! What is going to happen to my mum now?!
Sorry to lay this on the org, Drew is great to cry on but i just wanted to write what i was thinking and didn't know were else to do it?! :smt022

yep life sucks big time, then it throws mud at you when you think things are going better......big hug for you.
I can understand what you feel right now. I've been watching my dad suffer with retro piritoneal fibrosis for about 8 years(its on par with cancer). He was given 6 months to live 8 years ago, and after many operations to stop it, hes had a naff painful life..but hes still here.
In a funny way Lil, it can only bring you and your family closer, even though its tough. We as a family have some real close good times, as we know that round the corner Dad will one day be gone.
Again BIG HUG.xx
Oh Lily!
I am so sorry to hear that!
at least your mum has a daughter like you who will be there for her and you have your other half and don't forget that you both have the org for those times when you need a distraction
I am soooo sorry to hear this!
:grouphug:
life doesn't quite always suck but at times like this it certaily will seem that way!

i know how you feel, exactly how you feel really, wednesday last week my mum got the results of a biopsy to find she has breast cancer, that was less than a week ago and she's in for surgery next monday. without going into massive detail we're lucky it was caught early and is contained, but it still knocks you for six.
hope things work out for your mum...

life has good times as well as bad times you have to try to focus on the good things , i can get hard at times i had to care for my step father for 4 years after he suffered liver and kidney failure , at the time i was working 50 hours a week and had just become a dad so i focused on my son , all i can say is take it one day at a time and i wish you all the best to you and you mum:grouphug::grouphug::smt058
Really sorry to hear this Lily.................but Mum's are tough you know, especially when they have love and support. I'm sure your Mum is getting loads of both.:)
thank you everybody for your hugs and well wishes
my dad has called me back and my sister has also spoken to me. Me and my dad seem to be the most worried where as my sister and mum are just like O well you know?!
Lone wolf- i hope your mum gets better soon and her op goes well!! :grouphug:

Awww Lily & Lone wolf - I am sorry to hear this, the biggest things for your Mums is they have you and support to help them through this poo time. Without family and friends we have noone.
And you have us to support you so between us all you will get through this hun.
Big hugs and lots of loving vibes
Shell and Samson xxxx
oh guys that sucks big time :grouphug:
+ 1 for what Shelly said
In the last few months, I've gone to the hospital with my sister as she was diagnosed with epilepsy, attended my grandfather's funeral services, spent 36 hours at the hospital again for my wife's "cerebral-vascular stent" operation, lost feeling in my throttle-hand due to a pinched nerve, and just last Sunday, accidentally inhaled some of my grandmother as I was scattering her ashes in front of 6 of her 7 children. :-?
But... As much as life can suck at times, it's still much better than the alternative, in my opinion!
Life throws some very <insert extreme adjective here> situations at you... Just be thankful that the "corn" was at least properly diagnosed. All the best thoughts and wishes out to you and your mom! I hope everything turns out for the best!

Going through the "in the family" bit at present myself. My wife has had to have a mastectomy, chemo, radio therapy.
However, they gave her a bone scan. noticed something in her right femur. MRI scan. definitely something there. So she is seeing a orthopaedic surgeon in 2 weeks time.
Life is bitch at times

Lily, lone wolf and Tim, wish there was something I could say that would make the slightest difference, unfortunately I cant, been through tough times myself and know how important it is to have mates around you, all the best to all concerned.
Sorry Lily about things right now. Life can be a bi-atch sometimes. Keep your chin up kid.

Damn, thats really harsh, cancer is an awefull thing.
Is there any results on how far "progressed" the cancer is? Modern medicine has some clever tricks on how to deal with cancerous cells, so have some faith in it. Chin up lily, figneres crossed for your mum

to all you guys with sick family members at the moment!
More :grouphug:, know what you are all going through with family stuff and sometimes just a nice message from random strangers can help you feel a bit better.
Sometimes a distraction is helpful so check out www.icanhascheezburger.com to see silly pics of kitty-cats doing daft things and some very funny captions.

Saw her on the weekend, and she is still waiting for the appointment from the specialst to come though, then she will know were she stands and what she needs doing.

just got the results back from the operation, not good news...
it wasn't what they thought it was, it's now primary breast cancer and we're back in for another more extensive operation on the 21st, followed by the dreaded chemotherapy...

thanks to all those who replied, and those who sent me PMs, without wanting to sound like a cliche it did bring a tear to my eye to have people you've not met or even spoken to before show their support.
still a bit shocked about the whole thing, still haven't received the full results from the histology so it's a little up in the air right now, but on the positive side it's still early, we have one of the best breast surgeons on the island and we have plenty of practical support from friends and family
will keep you guys updated when we have a bit more info, thanks again:)
My sympathys to all at this difficult time and I hope for speedy recoverys. Lilly were there any other symptoms your mother suffered from as I also have a corn on my right foot that has been there for about a year and a half and nothing I do will make it go away. I've been to the doctors back in feb this year and used the cream they said to use but still nothing I've used corn plasters, savlon, skin cream,I've even dug it out my foot several times leaving a crater nearly 1cm deep but still it comes back. I never thought that it could be cancer but after reading your thread I now am slightly concerned.

well i said i'd update so here we are...
second op went fine, and had the results on weds. fortunately the lymph nodes show that the cancer hasn't spread beyond the breast, unfortunately despite removing a large (~2" across) amount of tissue they still haven't found the extents of the cancerous cells, so it's back into hospital on the 11th for a mastectomy+reconstruction, followed by chemo
Sorry to hear that..... hope the next op is a success and they can get all rid of all the cells!
big hug

Well, it has just hit my family again. The bro in law has just been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. First last year my other bro in law, then my wife, now another bro in law. 2 of them have never smoked in their lives. maybe it was their childhood upbringing, pretty dire. But what the hell, all in their mid 40s, hardly old is it.
Feck :(
All this bad news. Thoughts and GW wishes to all from sunny S Wales.

Hello mate,
Its obviously bad that she has to have yet more surgery to remove tissue, but the huge thing here is that the lymph nodes were clear. Primary cancer rarely kills anyone, it is secondary metastases that do the damage. I have my fingers crossed for your mum and of course everyone else mentioned in this thread.

yeah, re-reading the post sounds like i'm still on the downer but tbh i'm far happier to have a third op and an effective "all clear" than not knowing where or when the thing could spring up again, the worry is the effect it's going to have on her, as i know she was dreading the mastectomy as an option, but we'll get through it...
of course the whole situation isn't helped by the good for nothing **** of a soon-to-be ex-husband coming round on the same afternoon she got the news to say that as he's managed to rack up an additional 30 grand's worth of debt in the 2 years he's not been living here he now wants £50,000 out of a divorce, despite treating my mum like a cash machine for 10 years and never contributing a penny beyond the cost of his food, and treating the whole family like crap:rolleyes:
bloody hell, reading that back its like something off jeremy kyle:D
Just an update for you all......
My mum had the lump taken from her toe yesterday afternoon she has been signed off for a least two weeks as she can't drive or put pressure on her toe.
The doctors are going to test the outside of what they removed to see if the cancer is in the outer cells if it isn't they said they have removed enough and will decided on the next step/ course of treatment...... if the cancer is in the outer cells they will have her back in the remove more from her toe.
Hope everything works out for your mum Lily, Im sure she,ll fine, keep your chin up.

Yea :(
I had a dream last night that my cousin was still aliv, and I was gonna take him out on a ducati when I got one...then I remembered in my dream I could take him out on my SV!
Then I woke up and remembered he wasnt here any more. I've come home today, I just want to be with my mum and dad and twin brother
Lily, I hope your mum gets well soon; take comfort in what warthog said, he's not wrong.
Everyone else going through a rough time or just horribly stuck in a rough life, chin up and try and find something positive out of each day, even if its something simple like something funny you saw (a cat being stupid) or something nice you saw (someone's well-kept, nice looking garden that you had a good stare at while you walked past)
