View Full Version : Pondering... How much would a full respray cost?

Paul the 6th

I'm pondering (dangerously) and wondered how much a full respray would cost. I know the cost of the paint is a factor (remember a friend saying that some paints were a hundred quid a litre or more if you got fancy pearlescent stuff)...

Are there any escpecially notorious spray shops who are amazing at what they do? Looking around north or west yorkshire...

So for the lowers, upper fairing, tank, tail and front mudguard fender what-ya-ma-call it... basically everything which is blue, to be resprayed in pearlescent white - how much do ya reckon?

http://www.godesign.me.uk/svshop1/IMG_1940.jpg

just wondering, not really got the cash right now but I'd be tempted if I suddenly had enough money spare...

EDIT:
If you read on, this thread turns into a bit of a debate about colour schemes and whether resprays are a good idea. We ended up having a photoshop session and here are the outcomes :D

To make it look crashed / repaired, obviously! ;)

I have a spare full fairing (one lower needs a repair) and a tailpiece, I was thinking the same just so I could have a change when it suited me. All I need is a fuel tank with pump and a mudguard and I've got a spare set of boywork.

i love the blue colour - think it's great but I've got a bit of a hankering for a white bike and since the sv's have never been available in white, it'd be like the ultimate mod - anyone can buy an exhaust or a tail tidy... a custom paint scheme or colour is step further.

Was just thinking like a uniform pearlescent white (bit like the ducati 848)... I'm planning on keeping the bike for a number of years to come anyway. I'm not actively looking to get it resprayed now but if it turned out to affordable when I've got a little bit of cash spare, I'd be very tempted :)

a mate of mine working on the conference with me has just said the same:

"DONT BE STUPID! NOBODY WILL BUY IT EVER BECAUSE THEY'LL THINK IT'S BEEN CRASHED!"

I'm 95% certain I'll be happy with the sv for years to come (as long as it doesn't feck up mechanically). When selling wouldn't it be a bit more believeable that a bike hadn't been crashed if it had been resprayed in a special colour? I'm not saying that getting a fancy paint job is a better way of hiding a smash, but if you saw an sv in the street and it was in a unique colour - would you be intrigued/curious/impressed?

Try a PM to Mike (m9performance)

Seen a couple of his bikes (tho to be honest I havent looked THAT closely) and they have, from what I have seen, been stunning.

He will however be able to give you an idea of a cost.

As much as I love this new wave of white, I still prefer the SV in Blue. Some reason, it doesnt look quite right. I think its because there arent that many large panels on the bike and therefore there is still a lot of black.

oh no! lol inspired by the bio ethanol powered daytona 675 in bike magazine over the last few months... they have it sprayed in white as a base colour, then a funky cartoon style apple shaped earth spray job over the lot.

Any suggestions for another random paint job? photoshop will let me change to colour of the bike to everything except white as it washes out

Hmm can I get a copy the Photoshop tool you used?

"Merge Motorcycle and Wheelie-Bin" is it?

Does look good tho

As for the "never sell it cos they will think its crashed" argument

Stuff it - its your bike NOW, dont worry about resale or even next week, if you want to do it, can afford it, then do it :)

Me too - though I'll admit my first thought regarding the "Please Recycle" bit was "Oh look, an organ donor!"

It cost me £400 to get my Blade done - full fairing, mudguard and ar$e end, but that was a favour from a mate in the business price. Probably looking at £500-600 depending on paint type, decals etc.

I did think of returning mine back to it's stock red... but apart from not particularly liking red bikes (though anything would look better than what it's previous owner did to it:roll:) I love the Repsol Blue and if I was getting it done I'd want a scheme just for me.
But then the BlueBlade is 10 years old, so resale value wasn't as much of an issue...

... that and I'll be parted with this bike over my dead body...

... or for a black Speed Triple.

Why do people copy me. :-(

Got me 2 spare sets of fairing (nearly), one of which will be painted matt black while the other is gonna be Duke 848 white (with red 650 instead of 848 ).

Can then chop and change depending on my mood!

Green with silver stripes. Thread closed

As for cost... Varies ridiculously, and price is no indicator of quality. I'd just want to see some of the sprayer's previous work, that's the only important thing really. I've seen "pro" spray work that's worse than my own, and mine's not very good. Orangepeel, masking bleed, ugh ugh ugh.

And for your bike... Go to Halfords, and check out all the colours, then spray it the one, two or three colours you like most. If I was you I'd go light, to contrast the frame. Actually, I just had a thought:

Ive been loking at a respray myself. After talking to a friend who works in this field.
Paint can range from £20 (plain black) to £400 per litre.

If you are short of cash you can massivly drop the cost of the job by doing all the prepping work yourself.
just get hold of somm 400 grit sandpaper and key all the fairings up yourself. then if they have to do anything it's much less work and at about £35 p/h its a lot of cash saved.
Have a browse through the net and im sure you could get a good idea of what to do.
That greens growing on me tho!

400 grit is WAY too coarse.

I START with 600 and work up to 1200

Even then I am being lazy and not going up to 1600
