Lily are you OK hun?
Hope your ok Drew dude, but come on more info!!!
Drew Carey

Right, info for you all......
As far as crashes go I feel embarrased to say it is the most useless one known to man.
Behind a lorry, all of a sudden he slams his brakes on and skids the lorry as another was coming the other way and they were about to scrape.
I didn't have time to stop, slammed on anchors skidded into the back of lorry at 5mph, bounced back off lorry and the bike dropped on the floor. I jumped off as the bike went so I am fine.....
The bike has a scrape on the R&G's and a scuff on clutch, gear selector, side stand and rear axel nut on left side. The point where I hit the lorry is the worst.......It has cracked my front fender and the brackets that hold the lights into the front fairing broke.
I got to my folks and me and my old man have taken all the front off. Used araldite and fixed the bracket etc so the light is again holding firm. Also had the front fender off and araldited the crack and used car body filler to cover the evidence. Now ordering some paint and will be spraying it next week when off work before the AR. So once that is done all that will look damaged is the R&G.....but heh ho.
Lily has hit me many times and deservedly so...I also feel so annoyed with my self that I wasn't further back. But lesson learned....So...........
By all means now take the mick out of me and call me a donkey cause I was. :D
Drew.................you're an ass!:D
And thoroughly deserve the belting you got from Lily:p
But you're ok, the bike is only cosmetic............and I'm damned sure nearly everyone gets a little too close to the vehicle in front occasionally. Just don't do it again;)
Hey no need to feel like a donkey, at least you are still here/ok to type about it. Plus it could of been alot worse if it was wet, it happens to us all.
So did the R+G's do their job then?
xXBADGERXx
25-06-08, 07:22 PM
At least you are ok Dude and the bike isn`t a disaster :D

QUick question guys.....does the front fender have any structural benefit to the bike? I just wandered as I don't want the crack being there to cause any issues.

considering the design and finish of the rest of the bike i can see why you might think suzuki would make a plastic fender a load bearing component but no, it's not;)
edit: and get well soon mate, i slid into the back of a taxi a couple of weeks ago, effectively zero damage but it hurts for a few days:(

Er what? Nah there's 3 sorts of paint, engine lacquer, PJ1 for spannies, and satin black rattle cans. You poof.

No structural benefit but at least gaffer tape it as the front tyre IS of importance to the handling! Plastic weld it or something as the crack advancing and dropping half a mudguard onto the tyre would be very bad.
Vibration and flexing causes cracks to advance.

Chris.....on a serious note have I done wrong by the paint? I've got the primer, silver undercoat, Napolean Candy Blue paint and lacquer.
As for the mudguard. At the point where the crack stops, we have drilled a very small hole through the mudguard, my old man was an engineer once upon a time and said by doing that it will stop the crack from advancing. We have then used car body filler to fill in said hole, the crack etc.

I think hes on the wind up on the paint...as you know unless paint is applied with a stick YC can't understand it:p
Yes you've gone the right way with the combo of paint...but on a serious note...be very patient and choose a warm day, as the paint works better...oh and if its in an aerosol, stand it in a jug of hot water for a few seconds as it thins the paint out and gives you a better finish( well not thin,,just it doesn't go on in in a glob like fashion which YC prefers..lol)

If it starts to get worse then drill a couple of holes and put lots of fibreglass around/ in the crack that tends to hold everything together. It's a pointy so you're not going to hurt the cosmetic appeal! :-P
