I'm not worried about it. If it rains it rains. I'll just go home its only 4 miles away :D

Weathers been good all this week here, we've had a bit of rain overnight and its overcast today, but its not cold.

I've found the metcheck site pretty accurate in the past, but I'm keeping everything crossed it stays dry.

did you forget NW3

dizzyblonde
29-06-08, 02:36 PM
did you forget NW3

NW3 was dry in comparison....seriously, it was very close, but at least the sun came out in Aber!!
At the last AR, the game of the day was cloud watching, as the hills in Yorkshire hold some very very bad black clouds.......it was like spotting giant waves at the seaside
'OMG look at the size of that.....its coming this way'

Jester666

IIRC, the AR was on a weekend that most of Yorkshire flooded severly. The Morrisons car park in Ripon, that we did a lunch stop in on the AR, was a lake just after we left. It was one of the few moments of dryness, then it looked like rain and we moved on......good job we did!!!
anyone remember the old granny paying in pennies at the petrol station there??

Don't worry Ed, they'll change the forecast a dozen times before the weekend. I NEVER believe the forecast this far ahead...............and even the forecast the day before is often wrong anyway. Don't know what they pay forecasters, but it's too much considering how useless they are:D

That was brilliant... We arrived in the dry- the only dry stretch all day just about- stopepd for food, and someone turned the taps on. Watching the vid Raf did of that stretch is hilarious in places, as he wades out of the car park...

Its been baking hot here today, clouded over at about 4pm and we've had a bit of rain this evening but not much.

I found the metcheck to be pretty accurate but also somewhat pessmistic as well. I.e they'll say its going to rain and in reality you get a shower.

If it does rain well remember. We have the pub we can use and also we have a 12 x 12 tent, also I suspect a few peeps will be bringing gazeebo's and stuff.

Forecast is changing all the time. What I'm trying to say is dont let the weather put you off, If you coped with AR07 you'll cope with this year fine.

Liz and I live 4 miles from the campsite. I'll bump this thread with what the weather is doing now and again. Just to see if it tallies up with what Metcheck are saying.

This links also quite useful

I re-waterproofed my leathers and goretex trousers last night. Which has 2 benefits, 1 is that all my gear is waterproof, and 2, so is most of my skin. When I try to wash it off I get very good beading, I should enter my arms in a show-and-shine.

So after all that, it's guaranteed not to rain.

All these negative vibes about the weather that have been posted in this thread are getting me down and I live 4 miles away and the metcheck forecast for today was nothing like the actual weather we've had today.

It rained for about an hour at lunchtime rest of the day has been scorching hot. I was sat outside with a beer cleaning our bikes till it got to dark for me to see what I was doing. In my t-shirt and jeans and I was sweating.

The BBC website I have found is notoriously wrong. Friday is now two days away plenty of time for the forecast to change.

Jesus anybody reading this thread will be expecting us to need an Ark to get in and out of Somerset at this rate. Can we not try and be a bit more positive ?

Right you bunch of Moaning Minnies......

Point #1 - I cannot be worse than last year was, and while a bit damp (ok so some people discovered that their tent happened to include an en-suite swimming pool), no-one died and EVERYBODY had a good time.

Point #2 - The Forecast says that there is only a 60% chance ANYWAY - so a good chance of it NOT raining at all

Point #3 - Even if it does rain, while it says that it may be wet tomorrow evening, all the rain on sat is due to fall before 9am - ie while we are all asleep in our tents, daytime Saturday is forecast to be dry all day, and if its a bit cool and cloudy, well thats better riding conditions than clear skies and strong sunlight.

Point #4 - I have been camping in rain or shine, even hail and snow on some occasions. It all about ATTITUDE, if it does rain, see point 1 above - the .org spirit made it a great weekend.

So, I dont want to see anyone dropping out because of the weather.

Just get there, and have fun :)
