An eight-year-old boy has sparked an unlikely outcry in Sweden after failing to invite two of his classmates to his birthday party.

The boy's school says he has violated the children's rights and has complained to the Swedish Parliament.

The school, in Lund, southern Sweden, argues that if invitations are handed out on school premises then it must ensure there is no discrimination.

That really isn't funny. How the hell can simply not liking someone be classed as discrimination?

Because it is discrimination. The fact that there are wildy varying levels of discrimination mean there is a huge grey area regarding what discrimination is acceptable or not.

As soon as you allow idiot ministers to make those descisions, crazy situations like this happen. Precisely why they should stop trying to micro-mange everyones lives and sort more important things like the economy.

Effing pathetic. I had hoped the scandinavians were immune from all this PC carp, but sadly it doesn't seem to be the case :(

No, but the birthday card did come as a flat pack needing assembly.

I recently read a quote that makes disturbing sense.

We have forced our minds to become so "open" that we refuse to allow ourselves to make good decisions based on logic or sense.

The UK are just as bad with some schools not allowing competitive sports because those that dont win will feel bad. I am sure the UK will do something like that in Sweden, we dont like having one over us!

Has this actually happened?

.....taking a different stance to the majority(well very other post:rolleyes:), I don't see no madness in the decision taken by the school.

We may argue about the wording of the statement put out by the school but that doesn't make the decision wrong or mad.

The parents of the birthday lad must be a bunch of idiots.

Mudder, I agree it is a brillant qute :) .

Funnyly enough, we could apply it to the majority of the posts here and arrive at a similar result to applying it to the alledged 'madness' ;)

How can you say that? If my daughter doesn't get on with someone at school, that someone isn't coming to one of her parties and (not necessarily deliberately) ruining the atmosphere. Does that make me an idiot?

I couldn't disagree more, as explained by Woz:

There are some people in the world you just don't get along with, you shouldn't be forced to spend time with them!!

Kids can be such cruel animals, I think this has been blown out of all proportion. I imagine that the child went round the whole class and blatently excluded these two.

No, the child should not be forced who should/shouldn't go to her party, but there's more to this story.
