Yup. I wonder how many accidents are caused by the poor condition of the road and the massive lorries that haunt it all day long. I've seen many bikes doing daft overtakes to pass the slow moving goliaths who seem to cut every single corner.

We're not blameless however ;)

Have you actually been? The A537 is pretty much spot on....hence why its so popular, most corners have biker friendly armco installed now and theres not a pot hole in sight, the surface is good.

Also all the times I have been there I havnt seen masses of trucks, if any at all, and thats in the week and at weekends.

I have seen 4 crashes now all of which were completely rider error, a lowside and 3 'too fast, panic, break moments' two of which were caused by bikes following to closely.

Bikes need to calm down, learn the road, then ride it fast. If it was looked into. I would put vast amounts of money on it being mostly weekend/summer riders making an occaional pilgrimage there and getting carried that make up most of those statistic.

I got cut up by a muppet on a CBR a few weeks back. Got in front of me just before a bend and then braked hard, I wasn't going to touch my brakes... He continued on for about 3-4 bends and then using the full width of the road nearly had a head on with a car. I had backed off to give this moron some space and passed him as he seemed to be quite shaken by his near miss.

And that is the big problem, people getting carried away.

Yeah loads of times. I lived in Manchester last year so went there pretty often. I nearly always get stuck behind lorries! They churn up the road in to gravel on the corners, and spread it on to the road from junctions.

There's a lot of nutters on that road for sure. It's hard to learn it all, and pretty involving. No surprise really that people come off the whole time.

ABSOLUTLY AMAZING ROAD!!!!

But these numbers are getting thrown out of proportion as always. I stopped off at the the pub and it gives all the stats and I think in 5 years 8 (dont think they were all bikers) died. So a lot of serious injuries but then that could "just" be gravel rash because of people no wearing good kit. Most of the accidents were because of silly overtaking, but there is no need tbh as you can see very well once you are getting upto the top.

They say its because out outlook on safty... well surly thats out choice? As long as you dont hurt anyone else whats the problem?

Oh and the last time I went over there, there was a MR2 over the edge with fron on a wall back end on the edge of the road... all wheels off the floor LOL. and a Daewoo on its roof. doh.

Seriously I travel it 3 times a week on weekdays everyweek when most trucks are on the road and theres next to never any trucks on it, maybe farm trucks full of parsnips for their sheep occasional lol, and the surface is defo not churned up apart from the very first 200m of the 537 (which is now sorted) as you come out of buxton.

If you were talking of the A54 (amazing road, possibly better than the 537) which leads off of the A537 then that is a churned up gravely beast, you sure you were riding the right road :p.

Because the road gets closed and alot of time and resources are spent scraping people off the floor, most of the time involving air ambulance (£££) because its in the sticks.

speaking about scraping people up, what happened to the "And he lived" thread?

I replied to BBC with this... Hope it isnt stupid :p

"Most roads these days are in such a poor state that you have to concentrate on trying to miss pot holes, metal man-hole covers and patches of gravel, that concentrating on things like other motorists becomes almost secondary. Then when you add radio, passangers, phones, food and anything else then you get some major risks of accidents.

I think the main reason the cat and fiddle is dangerous for bikers is that there are a lot of drivers that drive well below the speed limit (50mph) ive seen them as low as 20mph. Some people will get wound up and pass at any slight opportunity. Because of this the best solution is a minimum speed limit of say 40mph (less for some corners) this way people will be less willing to take risks to make reasonable progress.

Another idea maybe to ass a few stretches of passing places, maybe even biker specific so they dont get held up and aggrivated, so less willing to take risks.

I just hope this doesnt mean that people lose more freedoms and ridiculous speed limits come in."

Woops just spell checked most of it... lol.

Falco's are fantastic.

Tuano MUHA HA HA. If you want a Tuano with fairing then people make Fuono's. Basically Falco with rider bars fitted.

Guess youll have to try for some test rides on various machines.

Anyway. When we getting up the Cat and Fiddle for a meet? :smt077

1) I thought G said the road was in a great state of repair - looks a bit foolish if you're complaining about a road that actually has had a lot of £ spent on it - they'll just say why bother then if you don't appreciate it.
2)not sure what you are saying here, personally I don't eat food or listen to the radio on my bike. If you mean car drivers, i think it's a bit of a stretch to say that all accidents are car drivers faults because they have a passenger (whatever your point was I don't think it was very well made)
3)Surely it's way easier to overtake someone travelling 30mph below the speed limit than 10. If you only have a maximum speed differential of 10mph over the vehicle you are overtaking it will take much longer than a differential of 30.
4) AFAIK minimum speed limits just aren't used in the UK. The only one I've seen is in the Clyde tunnel and it is only 8 mph. Forcing someone to drive at 40 mph when they are not confident to do so is far more risky than anything.

Otherwise thanks for your efforts at giving the impression that all bikers are riding along wound up and aggravated if they can't ride fast enough :(

As far as I'm concerned, when reporting a serious injury, it has to be broken bones or life changing injuries. Gravel rash doesn't get rated as a serious, nor does the fact that someone goes to hospital with a sprain.

Saw it. It was a groupwank.

Loads of carp about how safe crash barriers make the roads when they're showing a video of those cheese wires! Safe?!? I think I'd rather land in a hedge or tumble down a hill.

Loads of mention of speed, NO mention of "don't drive like a ****"

"Watch out for dry stone walls and tree's" F### me they really were appealing to the lowest common denominator there....

I didnt say I was a biker. And the news story wasnt aimed entirly at bikers. So I thought id mention car drivers... It is true that bikers take risks because they get annoyed with slow drivers. Car drivers do too but they cant do anything about it.

Just a couple of idea's... lol not like its going to get anywhere.
