I am a born again biker, well I have been for the past 2 years, and I have been visiting the site for a while now looking for information and I have eventually decided to become a member. Hi!

1) The site was brought to my attention by a guy that pulled over and helped me out with a dead SV on the side of the A419 in February, he said if I ever had any queries with the SV to come on here as you are all friendly and helpful. I have found this out already. I would like to start off and say thank you to the guy, think he was Darren or Daniel, for not only going a few miles with a coke bottle to get fuel but on his return he actually followed me to the pumps to make sure I got there ok with the little bit he sourced earlier.

I am sorry that I have forgotten your name, I owe you a good pint. Can anybody help me out by tracking down this man;

White Arai helmet, grey white and black leathers, awesomely trick SV with yellow bodywork (race bike 2 piece type), and the most deafening yet fantastic roar from the exhaust which drowned out my standard exhaust even though he was about ten metres behind me.

2) I am also looking at having some work done on my SV650SK4, obviously a can is definitely on the list now but what other tuning things can i do to give me a little more omph...

Welcome to the site. Wasn't me either, but then with a Silver pointy it was hardly likely to be :D

Just to keep with the the current theme, it wasn't me either, but I have to say, I am not suprised in the slightest. We ARE a friendly bunch. Welcome aboard, I am sure the person you mention will make himself know in due course.

Welcome to the site and have fun.

Oh well he seems to have fallen off the edge of the world. Any suggestions on what to do to get a little more oomph from a SV650SK4, it is completely standard at the moment.

it was me!!!!!

no it wasnt

Err....more power from your SV....hmm, you might get another 10 bhp if you do things like full exhaust system, cam mods and stuff.

Welcome!

Matt

Sorry, a bit idiotish with all this tuning talk. what is the best system to have (power to value wise) and what are cams, do you mean engine cams on top of the piston? what is the benefit over a system when compared to a slip-on exhaust? i've also read an ECU rejet is a good idea.

sorry for all the q's.

Hello and welcome!

To be honest tuning an SV engine for power is best left to those who fiddle with spanners as a hobby and spend too much time on ebay, or the wealthy and bored. You can throw a lot of money at it for some average returns on power. That said, any slip on exhaust will make it sound great, and a bit of cash thrown at the suspension can make a big difference to how it feels to ride, swings and roundabouts I guess :)

A slip on can won't add power, if you're looking at full-systems there's a good few on the market which will give a couple of ponies.

Tuning the SV for power is fairly pointless, the money is far better spent on suspension. A bit of messing around with the gearing can make it more rideable round twisties at the expense of on the motorway or vice versa. That's cheap enough to do.

Look at dangerous daves bike, to build one of those you could probably buy another SV for the same money. muchos £££, and that's still not up to the same power as a supersport bike.

There is a "cam swap" mod, but as you have a pointy, suzuki did that as standard!

You won't find a cheap performance exhaust.

I got a micron system for my curvy SV for 40 quid, but they don't flow nearly as well as M4 or similar, sound very nice though.

Thankyou Yorkie. i think i will stick to just a slip-on exhaust and a gearing change. is this just a matter of using different sized cogs?

Welcome Geoffrey to the site.

Some friendly peeps on here,

and me.:smt077

Best advice is to get a loud exhaust and sort the front suspension out IMO, although a regear might give you the best instant result. Better to put a larger rear sprocket on as a 14 tooth front one can wear the chain quicker. I've got a 46 one on my curvy. Definately peppier.

i bought a beowulf slip on can (click to have a look at the cans for sv) (http://beowulf-performance-products.com/shop/category.asp?catid=201) for 140 quid, sounds immense and fitting was the easiest job in the world :)

I've been considering a k&n panel filter for the sake of having one (if they do one)... apart from that I'm going to get some new pads (which yorkie chris has offered to fit for me :)) and then maybe look at the suspension.

welcome to the site!

Hello Geoffrey, actually it was a water bottle.

Sounds familiar.

What is it you are looking for from your SV, I think your question has been answered with the previous posts from Chris and Pete.

he really was pete, and yes he was right it was a water bottle. you took of pretty quicky afterwards dave, quicky is an understatement as you hurtled along that slip road.

do you live in gloucester/wiltshire dave?

if you ever want to sell that beast of yours dave please let me know. what kind of power are you getting from it?

answer to you question dave, I am looking for a bit more omph from the sv but want to keep its everyday commuting ability and comfort. i'm not after a rip snarling beast like you had, sounded like it wanted to kill me when it was ticking over, does it have an asbo?

I have my moments, when I am allowed out of the Mental Asylum!

Had to shoot off to work, well get home after seeing my folks and get to work.

Not anymore, my folks still do and I often pass through (good roads too)

if you ever want to sell that beast of yours dave please let me know. what kind of power are you getting from it?
Not yet, I think Northwind (another member) would like the motor though. Its maximum power has been 96bhp and 62ft according to the last dyno print out I done, she's completely stripped now and I am aiming for 100+.

I am looking for a bit more omph from the sv but want to keep its everyday commuting ability and comfort.
A can and a gearing alteration would be the best bet, then work on the suspension as this is the SV's achilles heel!

i'm not after a rip snarling beast like you had, sounded like it wanted to kill me when it was ticking over, does it have an asbo?
No ASBO yet, and yes she does sound a little menacing at times when the engine starts hunting. The 'rip snarling' comes from having a full system with a can that has no perforated inner tube and no baffling material, basically a straight pipe from the cylinders (Honda MotoGP'ish).
