Just thought i'd say a quick hello. Name is Vix, currently in process of waiting to take my lessons, but got test booked for 10th of September. Based down in Kent most of the time. Quite like the look of the Bandit 600, but we'll see. Just thought i'd introduce myself, so hello.
Oh, and i was directed to this forum by Chakraist, so blame him for my arrival. :P

Welcome Vix.

SVs are better than Bandits. Not that I've ridden a Blandit but you are on a SV forum so what did you expect? ;)

Good luck with your test, just in time before the big change-over.

Yeah, that was the main aim. I'm still debating on the whole, Bandit/Sv front...i'm slowly being swayed to the latter, but i do love the Bandit. So, who knows.
Thanks for the welcomes.

Hiya and Welcome...... can`t enter the bandit/SV debate as my feet won`t touch the floor on a bandit. You wouldn`t go far wrong with an SV tho :D

You know you want an SV:smt045 Having said that, if you can't get on with clip-on bars, you 'd do far worse than an ER-6F. VERY similar to ride to an SV (i.e. loads more fun than a Blandit), but with a more upright position. Quedos has one because of her bad back. Besides which, you can get 0% on those still.

Hiya SupervIx from SupervOx !!

As for the SV / Bandit discussion - you can safely ignore EVERYONE who's never ridden both as they are all talking out of their backsides -as for the 'advice' that the ER-6 is a better bike - well that's just laughable !!

I have riddden both (a faired 600 Bandit was my first 'big' bike) & IMHO although the Bandit is heavier, I think it is a better first-time bike - although there's plenty of people here who've bought an SV as their first machine & got on fine with them.

Really it comes down to the aesthetics, price & insurance - if you can get a test ride on both that would be great - but I know I struggled when I first passed my test to find anyone who'd allow me a test ride on anything !!

Welcome to the nut house! Don't mind Bear, he's just wired like that!! You'll see when he finally shows up!

I've ridden both and I prefer the SV. Nothing wrong with the Bandit though, it's a good, strong and reliable bike. As Supervox said, try and get a test ride on the Bandit, the seat is taller but I don't know if thats an issue for you.

Main thing is to get a bike YOU are happy with! :smt045 And don't worry, you won't get pilloried for not having an SV!! We welcome anyone!!

G'day!

Biking is a very emotional thing - ride whatever makes you grin like a Cheshire cat on acid, whether that's a Hyabusa or a BSA Bantem.

God, I'm not even IN this thread yet and you've been warned about me. Don't listen to those who say I'm a deviant, they're just jealous 'coz I didn't offer to let THEM sit on my knee and talk about the first thing that pops up...

Welcome to the forum. Do you have any naked photos of yourself? If not, do you want some?

how do...

i wanted an SV when I first passed my test but when I sat on one for the first time, the riding position felt wierd. I went with a honda cbf 600 and did 3000 miles in 6 months. Went to the bike show at the nec and blagged a test ride on a 2007 sv650 s - I was hooked! 3 weeks later an sv with 500 miles came up for a price i couldn't refuse (I found it on here in the for sale section actually)...

a year after passing my test, the sv is indescribably brilliant. Loads of character, loads of aftermarket bits, easy to service yourself, great people here on the org and it never fails to make me smile :D

good luck with the test :)

G'Morning.

Bandit? SV?

Having owned both I'd say the Bandit is blander but easier to ride once moving, but a damn sight heavier than an SV.

The SV is easier to manouver around when pushing in and out of the garage, but on the move the Bandit makes more sense in town due to having a less lumpy engine with smoother power delivery. On open roads I love the SV for its flickability, grunt out of corners and slimness; plus the noise is addictive, even with a stock exhaust.

I loved my battered to hell 75,000 mile old Bandit 600S to bits, but I much prefer riding the SV650S I have now.

SV is miles ahead of the bandit in terms of fun.

The bandit is a good bike, does everything it's supposed to do, can be tweaked, is a bit more top heavy than the SV though.... But every bandit I've ridden I've found lacking in character and fun, except for the one with a GSXR750 engine fitted, that was amusing enough.

Hi Vix

I'm a new(ish) rider (massive two weeks now) as well and stumbled into SV territory searching for Bandit! The things that put me off Bandits were the Pikey Courier image and revving the nuts it to make it get a shift on.
What I loved about the SV was how sympathetic to a novice rider they are and the hooligan V-twin - you dont get that on a IL4 and I tried a few before going twin.

if not for the looks, the sheer grunt of the v-twin, and the vibrations should make it a winner!!!!!!!!!

Not a bandit. Reasons:-

Ugly
Heavy
Too many cylinders
Its a Bandit

other than that im sure they are nice bikes... he he.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you like them! Youll be spending a lot of time on here I can guarentee! :p

Get and SV until you feel confident enough to get a Falco. :D
