V Nice effect Sam. So in laymans terms what does all that mean/do?

basically it means you take a minimum of 3 photos 1 at normal exposure, one under exposed to get the details in the highlights and one over-exposed to get the detail in the dark bits. You then merge them together in photoshop or photomatix to for one image where detail can be seen in the light and dark ranges of the photo. :)

It may look poop cos I did it with one image, just made three seperate exposire copies saved from photoshop. Or it may just look poop.
EDIT: Bit more editing...

Not a lot different with the bike in the 2nd, I just copied your idea and got a blur effect on the surroundings. Got a few bits on the bike caught up though :( lol. Just airbrushed the Photomatix out too :)
Huh... have I missed something?

The things you learn on a motorbike forum eh? I'm off to play with my camera and newly acquired Photomatix software!
Not bikes, but my first little play.

If you have Photoshop, you can blur out the reflection from the window too if you don't like it...amazing though really what you can do with one photo.

It makes the colours really rich. Going to have to have a play at doing this! :D :D :D :D

Here's another way of doing it if you have photoshop...
1: Create a duplicate layer
2: Invert the duplicate layer
3: Gausian blur the layer to around 70 pixels
4: Convert it to B&W
5: Change Layer blend to overlay and opacity to around 80%
6: Adjust the levels on the layer
It's quite subtle but the best way to see is to have a go and then turn the duplicate layer on and off and you can see quite a difference.
