All,

As DMC said in the Nurburgring thread - we should arrange another rideout if possible before the big day.

I'm not here this weekend but think I'm free the next three weekends before we go.

Everyone post in this thread what week they're free and we'll try and sort it out. Maybe head over to Wales and hit the A483 on this one? Could get Luckypants to meet us and show us some good routes too if he's free?

19/20th - free for me

26/27th - free for me

2/3rd - free for me

Cheers,
Matt :salut:

Would love to try and make another rideout before we go, especially if we can meet LyleJ and co. I should be free on 26/27th July and 2/3rd of August, but not free on the 19th/20th July i'm afraid.

I am also free during most weekdays if that helps with dates.

The only thing is i am trying to make the Ecosse rideout in Mid August as well is possible so depending on how my money situation is it'll be a case of every little helps really...

Provisionally aim for 26/27th July then? Either Saturday or Sunday should be fine with me. I'll check the diary (wife) tonight and confirm,

If we can do the 26th that would be great, I can do the 27th but unfortunately diary restrictions means those are the only two days I can do before we go now.

I thought about going over to Wales way but if you're coming from Long Eaton Lylej, it might be a good idea to meet up somewhere round Buxton, possibly do C&F? I've never been there and would like to do it.

?

Cheers,
Matt

carty

abergaveeny bus station?

Abegavenny bus station eh? Is that where the magic happens?! :smt103

Lol! I would be up for Wales but once we've confirmed a date we'll decide which way we're heading - would you be up for Wales LyleJ or is it too far to go?

Alternatively, would you be up for Cat and Fiddle Hovis?

G
21-07-08, 07:35 AM
Is this only open to people to people going on the euro trip then?

I would be up for the C&F on the 26/27, to be fair I head in that directions and sorrounding roads most weekends/evenings so will probably be out that way anyway.

carty
21-07-08, 08:25 AM
Course not - more the merrier mate!

I am still up for Saturday and would like to come up to do the C&F. Morning or afternoon?

Binky? DMC? You game?

Cheers,
Matt

G

C&F from Birmingham will be an all day job not really a morning or afternoon. :p

I dont know which direction people are going from but, the best place to meet for doing it would be junction 29 of the M1.....then A617 from chesterfield....its perfect roads from chesterfield onward.

That is miles from Brum though so not sure which direction you would come. It is under an hour from brum to 29 if you live on the east of brum and can nip up the a42/m42

Saturday would probably be best as sunday is warrior day and every man and quite literally his dog is up there and you cant enjoy it.

I can do any day though.

EDIT: Just noticed where you are all from, I'm guessing you will be going up the M6. I can probably meet at junction 18 of the M6, then I could lead the way along the A54, then loop back via the A537/C&F, that would be a very good day.

Would take me a while to get to junction 18 but would be well worth it.

carty
22-07-08, 09:46 AM
I'm definitely up for it on Saturday, although the weather isn't supposed to be 100% (it never is when you're planning a rideout is it  :riding:) All day job it is then!

I would probably go up the M6 a bit and then cut across through Leek and up the A53 towards Buxton. If we met somewhere round Buxton then did the loop round A54 / C&F that you're talking of G, would that be ok? Meet up somewhere round Buxton around 11am?

Anyone else available want to join in?

Cheers,
Matt

G
22-07-08, 09:53 AM
I can meet anywhere in/around buxton.

Metcheck says 0.1mm of rain which is nothing and theres plenty of time yet for it to change.

11am is also fine for me, I will pm you my number.

Sorry Matt, not going to be able to make this :( got a busy w/e ahead.

Obvious route from BP is up the A515 from Lichfield, through Ashbourne and upto Buxton. Only 61 miles & depending on traffic should take a little over an hour! Have done this route and back after work on a weekday, so definately not an all dayer

G
22-07-08, 12:44 PM
I have set off at 10am before, and done the original chesterfield route I posted about and not been back until 5pm including the odd stop for a drink and natter.

Thats the only reason I said it wasnt really an afternoon/morning jaunt, I class that as the whole day anyway :D as you cant plan to do much else.

The A537/A54 loop takes about an hour, maybe abit less, its good to do it twice if you havnt done it before as you enjoy it more the second time.

Sorry Matt, not going to be able to make this :( got a busy w/e ahead.

No worries mate, not long til the Ring anyway :riding: You decided what you're gonna do about your tyre yet? I don't want you blaming that chunk out of your tyre for being the slowest black gixxer! ;) (I wish!)

Yep G, if we meet at 11am we can have a couple of laps of the A54/A537, a bit like a mini Nurburgring with the added hazards of two-way traffic, coppers and livestock :smt003. We can get a coffee and a sandwich too, I'll be in no rush on Saturday.

Anyone else viewing this thread welcome to come along :D:smt035

Afternoon all. Just seent this rideout plan. Seems like a nice ride. I'll try and make it but i'm on a strict budget of late and am trying to make the Scotland weekend just after Nurburg as well. So i'll post on hear soon when i know for sure...

not realy the point though i asked for people to send me payment for the loft so i could book it all together, and you have to pay in advance, which i have done,

He's been online recently so he must have seen it, cant imagine 2 cheques have gone missing in the post, perhaps someone has his number so you can give him a call. Bit harsh leaving you £40 out of pocket.

As for tomorrow, bbc weather says poor weather and Metcheck says good weather so theres hope yet, judgement call in the morning by the looks of it.

carty
25-07-08, 10:05 AM
Come on man - it's only a bit of rain! :p

The weather is looking dry overnight but a few showers developing towards midday / afternoon (I sound like a bl00dy weatherman!) according to the BBC.

I'll log on around 8am tomorrow to confirm I'm setting off but I don't envisage cancelling unless it takes a drastic turn for the worse \\:D/

You cool with that G? Has you been out in the rain on your new baby yet? (honestly not being sarcastic just interested!)

Cheers,
Matt

G

Yeah I rode 150 miles to evotech to pick up my tailtidy in the rain lol :( Also rode last weekend in the rain, I dont try and make a habit of it though.

Metcheck says the weather is going to be awsome tomorrow anyway  so unless it is completely lashing it down when I wake up I'll be setting off about 8.30 - 8.45ish to get there for 10am

The bad weather wont arrive until late afternoon apparently and even then only light ocassional showers.

I'll send a text when I'm setting off.

So who is definately heading out on this ride out???

Also, what is the rough route starting from that junction just outside Buxton??? ( a simple google maps thingy would be helpful )

G
25-07-08, 05:35 PM
I will be, providing I dont get up and its lashing it down when i wake up, and the weather forecast says it defo wont be :D

I think the plan was to do the length of the A537 to macclesfield, then A523 to bosley, then A54 back to buxton, really nice route, not massively long can do it in both directions to make it abit longer it easily enjoyable enough to ride the loop allday.

Unless anyone has any other idea or plans, I'm certainlyno great organiser or route planner lol

Looks like a nice little route, but i'm afraid i can't make this one. I've just been reminded of a friends birthday BBQ and drinks...

Yep I'm still definitely on for it - just found out a mate is heading up that way with his Dad too for the day so might try and meet with him when we stop for a coffee or something.

I'm happy with the route you've just put up G, looks cool to me, not too bothered where we go so long as I can cross C&F off my list!

See you at 10am dude,

According to metcheck the weather is now going to be unbelievably NICE 27c feels like 29c....and no rain in the buxton area at all......BONUS:smt026

So between 10 and 10:15 at the pretol station where the A53 meets the A54 if anyone else is interested.

Or I can meet anybody at junction 29 of the M1 about 8:45.

Nice to me you matt and the other two guys you brought, who I dont think are on the forum

Was a scorching day, couldnt have asked for better weather really.

Figured out that when my knee is down I still have about .5mm to the edge of the tyre as I have consistent molten lines, so i can lean off a little less now if I want to completely ilimenate my strips of chicken lol

Cheers, good to meet you too, Steve and his Dad aren't on the forum, haven't spoken to him since Saturday but I assume they had a good time going down to Matlock. I think Steve felt a little out of his comfort zone chasing two SS600's on his GS500F!

Haha! On the second loop I noticed you grinding your knee away a few times. I didn't get the knee down on Sat, I think I was going in to corners about 5mph slower than you, being a new road and all and I was pretty close but not quite there :smt102. I have to lean quite a bit to get my knee down cos my leathers are quite tight and I don't have very long legs! Out of interest, what group do you ride in when you do trackdays? The pace on Sat was certainly hot enough for me!

Matt

I felt that :( I didnt want to go to quick and put anyone off or cause an accident with people trying to keep up. Its one of those things when riding in a group you dont know, it hard judging how comfortable other riders are.

I had to peel my damn leathers off :( thought I was stuck in them lol

I always go into Novices at the moment, and sometimes felt really held up on the sv in corners as I was always stuck behind people, would always pass people coming out of corners then get overtaken again before the next corner by the same IL4's that couldnt do corners but blasted by on the straights.

But then other times I feel the slowest in Novices and everyman and his dog has a dedicated track weapon, sometimes it feels like they are only in Novice because every other group was full which I think is out of order. Depends on the the company organising the day.

I havnt done a day on the CBR yet but feel much quicker on it, so will do a couple more days in the Novice group then think about trying intermediate.

Should arrange to get one done at somepoint, Mallory and Donington arnt far from you if you fancy it? I'm skint trackday wise until I get back from Holiday on the 7th September if you fancy one in September?

I would love to do one :smt045 . I almost booked myself to go to Rockingham a couple of weeks ago with gixxerjunkies but I didn't go in the end cos I was a bit worried about if I binned it and then had nothing to go to Germany on! But once that trips out of the way I would definitely like to do one - September sounds good, gives me a bit of time to put some money away for it. Mallory or Donington would be good for me.

IIRC they are starting the revamp at Donny later in the year - not sure when though

I have never been to rockingham and quite fancy the national circuit so thats an option as well if you were considering it.

There is alot of speculation about the change at donington, the track will be one of the last bits to be upgraded though, apparently starting with the general facilities first.
