Went on a round trip to see my family at the weekend, Newcastle to Wakefield and back, a total of 220 miles.
I wanted to know what the fuel economy would be on a run for my N reg Mondeo 1.8 TD estate, so just before setting off I filled up, and reset the trip. Came home, filled up. Never went over 70mph, and at least half the journey was at 65mph.
It's practically all motorway work door to door.
It took 19 litres of diesel to fill back up, costing a whopping ?25.07!!!!:smt043
Anyway, my findings are as follows, and correct me if I'm wrong:
220 miles divide by 19 litres = 11.57 (11.5)
11.5 x 4.5 (4.5 litres in a gallon) = 51.75mpg!!
Now here's the thing. I'm pleased my old wreck gets 52mpg....but a total cost of ?25 to get from Newcastle to Wakey and back!! I'm shocked.
So, the next time I go down (to Wakefield that is) I shall be taking the 55 reg Picasso 1.6 petrol. Same excerise exactly etc, to see if a modern petrol will be as efficient as an old diesel.....and to see if the price difference means I'm better off driving the petrol from now on.
Oh, the misus now thinks I am obsessed with fuel economy, as well as motorbikes.
Thats all, as you were.
