Had my first crash on my SV today.
Was going down a main road in the wet when a van pulled out from a side road (I had right of way) 5m before i reached the junction. I pulled on the front brake, locked the front wheel up and swerved to one side, just missing the guy; ended up on my back with my SV on its side. The van driver just shot off down the road without stopping.
The left footpeg and gear shifter assembly has been snapped in half so I'm looking for a replacement - any ideas where I can find one? I'll probably weld it together for the time being. I also need to do something about the rear indicators because the left one is smashed up; it's the original indicator so I have a horrible feeling that I'll need to cut off all the plastic (it's a curvy) and install an undertray/tail tidy to fix aftermarket indicators.
I've reported it to the police because I have two witnesses (one being an RAF squadron commander on a TransAlp who stopped to help me) plus CCTV of the van as it fled the scene. Hopefully they'll get the guy and I'll be able to take him to small claims court for the cost of the repairs.

Sorry to hear about the off, sounds like your not physically too bad, and only minor bike scrapes. Can't help with bits but hope you get it all going again asap.

Sorry to hear about ya off mate, are you OK? Glad the bike isn't too bad still not nice tho :(
If the police catch up with him they should be able to get you his details and IF he is insured then you can claim off his insurance, easier and less drawn out than small claims court.
And hopefully the Police will have him for non stop. There must have been a reason for him not stopping i.e. probably been drinking.
Hope he is found and you get it sorted quickly x
Don't suppose you got his number? :(
Original indies - plenty of folks want to change to minis so should be able to source an original hopefully

as said if they trace it you should be able to claim off his insurance, although if the cops in your area are anything like mine they won't think twice about doing anything as unless they can give you a ticket for something they don't give a :-#

Thanks for all the sentiments, guys; I appreciate it.
I got lucky and found a left footpeg/gear shifter assembly from a GSX-R that bolts straight on, which was great. I'll take your suggestions for sourcing new indicators.
Total cost of repairs so far is ?25, so I really can't see the point trying to chase this guy.

cause the next time he does it he could well be leaving a biker to bleed to death on the roadside instead of calling an ambulance?

Call the police, its a serious issue that he fled the scene, and also that he made such a dangerous driving error.

Already have. Filed a report, handed over the eyewitness's details and given them the locations of the two CCTV cameras nearby. The desk clerk said that they often don't check CCTV due to the Data Protection Act (!!), so there's probably no chance of them locating the guy.

Well thats balls isn't it? If you cause a crime then you should have certain rights removed, such as data protection, to enable you to be traced. It is essentially hit-and-run, what has happened to you
Maybe someone on here is a bit of a legal beagle and could help?

i'm more of a legal spaniel - keen but clueless - but it sounds like they just fobbed you off to save them the hassle of actually doing their job and not sitting in the camera van eating doughnuts

Jeez- what else is CCTV for, then?! Street ornamentation?!
I've looked into CCTV footage- it has to be requested as part of a police investigation, if I remember right- so the Police could request it to assist an investigation. As you have two witnesses, you've got a bit of backing too- did they get the licence plate no.?

I hope they catch up with the guy as things could have been worse and they need to be stopped.
PM me your address and I'll pop an indicator in the post to you. Is it just the rear one you need?
