A thing of absolute beauty!
Nice picture too.
I have an exhaust valve out of a Merlin, its massive!
Cool, I was at Raf Cranwell one day when the battle of britain flight flew over, you could hear em coming from miles away, I asked one of the lads what the sound was ''that , young man, is the sound of freedom'' replied a sargeant stood behind me, best quote I ever heard :D

a good few years ago I knew where there was 6 brand new crated super merlin engines. Trouble was the bloke who owned them also new what he had.
I bet they are worth a fortune

Guess they will be on their way to Farnborough - Any chance of sending them via Hedge End? [-o<

Yes, and they'll be going VFR, so they could well do.
Very cool. And with a cloudy sky like that, you want to have a mess around with an HDR photo.

Just had a chat with the crew, (and a crawl all over the lancaster :)), due to crosswinds they don't plan to leave until tomorrow, rough estimate 2pm.

Wow, I see they fit tyre warmers so they don't need to do a warm up lap before giving it stick.

if your asking about the Buell day, it was a european Vtwin festival, raising money for a charity in memory of a lady Buell owner I believe. It was just today

Must admit, when the engines started up it gave me goosebumps, and watching the Lancaster taxi down the runway brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. The sound of freedom indeed. Without them, we might all be riding BMW's!

im 4 miles from the airport, herd them fire up, switched the phone onto video and legged it out the front door
stood on my drive i sadly only caught a few second window of the spitfire and hurricane banking over before they disappeared behind the trees
wish I'd gone down there now but i got told off last time for standing on the roof of my car blocking an entrance
truly awesome sound, made the glass in my front door rattle

Yup, spitfire and hurricane went first, then the lanc and the pair circled and tucked in behind, you should have seen all 3.
I stood next to runway, have a few pix, but cant upload from work

i was hoping they would go over the house, last time the lanc did it was barely higher than the roof was awesome
when they did the 70th anniversary flight i had spitfires buzzing round all week end, didn't leave the house:)
did you get a vid?

Sweet, I forgot all about the air show.
Just for the Merlin lovers...............this is the Lancaster we saw on Saturday, although this video was taken earlier in the year.

he did say, that he'd have liked to have had a go, he rather liked your bike. He was certainly suffering by the time he got back......:smt102
He rode home with another Raptor owner and Ian..........he found a speed he'd not yet got to try out on his, but couldn't keep up due to the naffed rear tyre.

Napier Sabre.
Hmmmmm, PV12, gorgeous, but I do prefer a twin set (de Havilland Mosquito), wasn't it something like "vulture" Rolls royce's first try at the X24, leading to the Napier Sabre as a development from that ?
Cheers Mark.

Vulture is effectively two Rolls-Royce V12s, (Kestrels?) back to back, so the motor is a sort of 'X' shape with one 'V' upwards and one 'V' downwards. Sabre is an 'H' configuration, two flat 12 motors one above the other geared together, the significant difference is that the Sabre is sleeve valved, huge volumetric efficiency and huge oil consumption to go with it apparently.
Oodles of welly though, later versions of the Sabre made more than 5000hp.
Which is good obviously, but considering fuel prices nowadays running one could be a problem.
