Will I be ok to do this? Have had a look on their site and it doesnt appear on list of prohibited items and it is a ball ache trying to get through on the phone to them.

unless u going to were it on the flight with a tinted visor down,
i cant see ( see ha ha ) any problem.
dont think the check in/out would see ( ah ha ) the funny point of view..
just carry it in as hand luggage and for gods sake dont treat it as a
glass ball..
no shaking, no banging, and god forbid no dropping it......
it could be mistaken for something else///
yea
a cannon ball... :pirat:

Put it in a bag and carry it on.......

I have a Shoei helmet bag you can borrow, it's a proper bag with handles not the drawstring sack.

got a bag but cheers for the offer. If Ryanair wont let helmets on for any reason, putting it in a bag wont make much difference. It may be that it wont be an issue at all but just wondered what airline policy was as some are fairly anal.

I took mine to Australia last year as hand luggage and I think Raf did the same. Airport security don't seem to have a problem with it, but like you said the airline may take a different view. What I did was email the airline and took the printout with me which stated that it was allowed on the flight, just incase the ground staff got a bit tetchy.

Do Ryan Air have that "your hand luggage must fit in this impossibly small sized rectangle otherwise we charge you for more hold baggage" requirement?

If so, from what I can remember of when I was in Gatwick a fortnight ago, I doubt my helmet would have fitten in there!

I suppose all you can do is ask - mind you I wouldn't like my helmet going into the hold without 6" of foam all around it ...

Last time I flew with Ryanair (May) I carried it on in a helmet sack. I also had a backpack, motorcycle jacket etc and didnt pay any extra for luggage etc. I didnt ask but on both ends they were fine and didnt mention anything - after all its just a big hat. If they argue just put it on your head and wear it :)
