View Full Version : The Kwak is poorley!!
:smt013 aghhhh
My 6R has developed a bloody oil leak from the fron of the engine somewhere.
Posibly the rocker cover gasket or an o-ring on the cam-chain position sensor, according to digging on other foums!!
Its going into George whites under warrenty for them to strip it down and look, TO say i am fu*8ked off as its 8 months old is a bloody understatement.
It will be in there for an undetermind amount of time. It better be out soon as i was planning to go away for a weekend soon!!

Gutted :( at least its under warranty.........not what you need at all when the weather is starting to pick up though.
You will buy these £5000 kawasaki's because they do 84mph in first gear though, should have bought a honda (lol Joke)
Be sure and give a write up on the 10R you demand as courtesy bike

Nah I'd ask for SV. More reliable.:p
Surely it's only a weep so not going to stop you using the bike Neio. I know it's annoying and not what you expect though.:smt013

it is only a weep realy but it appears from other Kwak forums it is becoming a bit of a common 'know' problem.
Warrenty will sort it out so not concerned, like you say its not what you expect from a new bike and it ****es me off its in the middle of sumer it happened!! you watch and see it will be clear blue skys for the time its off the road!!
Weather is lovely here at the moment, supposed to be nice until sunday then going horrible again :(
Surely its a one day job to replace/ reseal the gasket???

weeelll, stop doing 0-160 all the time, and your engine wouldn't be crying;-)

I know you are pi**ed off but surely you can get a courtesy bike from them and have a go on something different?

apparantly GW reckon a courtosy bike is not included in warrenty work paid for by the manufacturer:smt013

This is awefull, the bike isn't even that old :(
Have you have a look for where the oil is coming from? I have a small leak from an engine cover on my SV, maybe its something similar?
Does it only do it after short runs? Mine only leaks after short runs, once its all up to full temp I guess everything seals and not a drop of oil escapes
Hope it gets fixed
Matt

Matt
it is just over 7 months old! it appears to be comming from the top of the front of the ngine and trickling down onto the manifold pipes and clooecting on the frame bolt.
it does not appear to effect performance but i have noticed it sounded a bit tappy on cold start as well .

Hmm, could be coming through a bolt or somehting like that; maybe something has warped where it wasn't assembled correctly. I don;t know alot about that kinda thing though. Has the tappy sound always been there? Or are you just noticing it now because you're a bit paranoid of problems?

It was in for a service a few weeks ago so maybe they did not tighten something up!!
no the sund is new!! Kwak engines always sound rough its a trait of theres so it could be normal!! LOL
Shame about your bike mate but at least it will get done under Warranty and you will have it back like new for NW4 with your daughter :D. Pity they won't let you have a courtesy bike

Maybe you can have a look yourself, wipe the oil away around the offending area then start the bike up, let it warm up, then turn it off and see if oil is coming from something specific?

Mine has a slight tappy noise every so often, might be just the injectors and you listening for issues now you have one.
Hope it gets sorted for you quickly :D

that is exactly what i did this morning and checked t when i got to work and there was a definate little trickle .
I also let the bike warm up properly before i set off as well.
No courtesy bike for warranty work? Sounds a bit odd to me. Get on the phone to Kawasaki UK and express your displeasure at finding yourself in this bikeless situation.

Could you see where the trickle was coming from? Like, was it from a cover, a bolt, something like that near the front end of the engine?
I think my "help" is now going round in circles :D

Damn, thats a shame.
If you had an SV, you could be damn sure it would be coming from the clutch cover :D

Mine does exactly the same... have checked the oil levels regularly and it never seems to drop at all. Mine coughs a bit on a cold start, but after about 3metres of riding its all fine.
How much oli are you talking? Is there a puddle on the floor after a day's parking?

So it's got an oil leak, boo hoo. Still goes don't it, so it's not like you're left stuck somewhere. And it's eight months old, which means you won't need to pay for it to be fixed, perhaps it would be better it leaked when it was older - outside the warranty period?

hee hee... my thoughts too. (and my bike is also weeping oil).

we are talking a tiny bit only notice it when you touch or check the front of the engine.
anyhow its i GW now and Yes Sid it aint costing me a penny, but better to make sure these things are sorted befroe it costs me ny money though.
Although there is a known problem with the 07 6R's and an o ring on the cam chain somewhere. I would not be surprised if more peeps report this then before long thet are recalled for the work anyhow. the 08's have a different one and dont suffer the same problem aparantly.

Scrub out Kawasaki & write Triumph on the tank - It'll be fine then ;)
Only kidding, hope you get it sorted.

I can see your point it's hardly the issue of the century, (but this was posted in IB - or is that why you moved it there? :-k ) but if a bike has problems that are sorted in the warranty period, would you say it was more or less likely to suffer problems after the warranty (which is incredibly short on bikes cf. cars)
George whites just rang, it was the Rocker cover gasket letting oil seep out apparantly. This is a known issue andi hope Kwak do a general recal soon.
So it will be ready to colect tomorrow.

So,its all your fault
You killed it.
So,its all your fault

nope it aint dead, its all better now. I am going to write to Kwak and inform tham i think its shocking that a bike of 8 months old has this problem. that a lot of P7F owners have had the same isue and that would they like to either recall them for propper repair or suffer the legal battle if someone crashes due to a known defect causing oil to go on the tyres.
makes you wonder what they are playing at mate.Millions spent on R&D ,yet they can let known problems go and go

Its disgusting mate one of the lads on the ninja forum done some reaserch and low and behold the parts know to give this issue have been changed in the 08 ones!!!
So if they know its an issue wh y not isse a recall to sort the 07 ones, rather than have a constant stream of ****ed off customes get them fixed under warrenty.
Ill still buy a Kwak again thouhg love them LOL:rolleyes:
