Is there such a thing.....?
Was thinking about getting a supermoto for hooning around our fair capital and cant really stretch to a LC4/ Husky as it would be a second bike.
Presumably our continental cousins arent spending their Euros on spangly KTMs all the time and there must be a cheaper alternative?
Are there any 400/450 crossers or similar I could put sticky rubber on? Comfort not an issue, purely for irresponsible short distance scratching. :-dd

Sometimes the odd converted crosser pops up on eBay. Might be worth a look...

But there was a DR350 version previously, just add stickies!

Yammy XT660 or WRF450?
Honda CRF450?

MZ Bagheera/Mastiff? These are pretty cool IMO, I think they have the Yamaha 660 motor in. Old KTM Duke 1? I'd look for a converted mentalist dirtbike personally, not that I don't like road-biased supermotos but they're a compromise, I had a very brief go on a race supermoto a while back and there's no comparison really.

Save a few extra pennies and buy something decent, eg an LC4 based one or the Honda XR650. Anything else will just cost you more in the long run, or even in a very short run come to think of it!

depends what you want it for really, you don't get mental performance without sacrificing in terms of maintenance and reliability.

i have two supermotos, a DR-Z400 and a KTM 560SMR, one has a recommended oil change interval of 4000 miles, the other 300 miles, but when it comes to performance there's no comparison:

the 625SMC in the middle belongs to a friend, and it's a good compromise of performance and service intervals, you can pick up a decent 04 model for about £3k:

Is that 560 on slicks?
If so, track only? :???:

If you're looking for cheap(ish) n cheerful then a DR-Z400SM is a good option - you can pick up a 2005 bike in VGC with low miles for c. £2400, and there's lots for sale/plenty of spares around.

The problem with small singles is that they don't have a lot of puff - however round town/off road that's not really a problem.

Incidentally you can stick a set of dirt wheels on the SM version for when you want to take it off-road.

Then if you get into it properly you can always sell the DRZ on and trade up

Definately recommend the DR-Z400SM. I've had a converted DR-Z400 for 5 years and it's just about the best bike I've had for getting around town/city traffic....and nothing's fallen off!!!! Be prepared to replace the chain/tyres on a regular basis as they eat them...

when i got a bike it was a sv or drz. they were massive n i saw a sv first.

a mate had a race ktm 525 n it was a animal only 4 gears n it just wheelied. he let a few people have a go n 2 of em flipped it n they had big sport bikes.

n they last well.

get a CR500 and put some 17" road wheels on it, that'll keep anybody entertained on the way to work ;)

And stop exaggerating!

having taken my 560 out for it's maiden voyage yesterday i can confirm that they are indeed, animals;)

1st is uncontrollable wheelies, 2nd is controlled wheelies off the power, 3rd is lean back and crack it open and up she comes, hit a ripple in 4th with the throttle open and it comes up and stays up again, no clutch needed:cool:
