hi folks

I was wondering if any of you use Dunlop 209's for racing. Apparently the new compound runs on a much lower psi on the rear than the 208's. I have looked at the recommendation from Dunlop but what pressures have you found to be best.

Dunlop go for 31psi (2.1bar) front and 21 - 28psi (1.4 to 1.9 bar) on rear.

cheers

Hi mate, one of my mates that I race with uses them. Swears by them. He runs a 31/30psi front and 29/28psi rear.

Thanks for that.

I will try it out at the next meeting although it is a road race. Its the Dundrod 150 on Thursday during the Ulster Grand Prix week.

cheers mate

Didnt think they did these in 160 rears?

aye they do but i had to wait for them, and had to contact one of the main distributors (in Ireland). I never see that size in any 'drop downs' for tyre sizes tho.

Was thinking of trying some of these myself.......

Not sure though...they used to be loads dearer than the Super Corsa's I gues not now?!?!?!?

May well try some of those Avon's..think they make a very good "road" tyre?

You needing to try something else mike?

Not really no, I've been using D208RR's though for intermediate weather and they seem pretty good, last time I looked though I couldnt get 209RRs in the correct sizes for the SV.

Did a little more digging on this and found that I could get Dunlop 209 RRs in 160 rears but not the 209 GPs.

Which ones did you get hold of in the end?

I assure you that you can.

As I said my mate uses them for minitwins and here are a set on ebay that he used a few weekends ago. :)

I run 209's on my minitwin, 31 front 29 rear. only used them on the roads so far, NW200 & Manx GP (lapped i.o.m. at 103.5 & top 10 at NW). They work real well but do lack a bit of stability at high speed. The wear rate on the road circuits is fantastic too, seem to be very consistant.

What compounds do you run on the 209GP's? I was thinking a soft front and medium rear??

We ran 209GPs on the ZX10R for one or two meetings late last year. They do run very low pressures at the rear for some reason. Where we used to run 28R/30F on Racetechs, we were running with 21R/29F with the Dunlops.

Danny didn't like them, he said they gave midcorner stability problems and didn't feel that they had as much grip as Metzeler Racetechs when pushed. He had the rear break away quite dramatically coming out of Clarke Curve at Brands where the Ractech he'd just replaced would have slid progressively. We questioned Dunlop about the pressures and they were adamant that the rear should be that low due to the sidewall construction being different to normal tyres. We switched back to Racetechs after that and had no problems.
