The last thread has made me think...

Is there any good place in the London area to go that someone might recomend, and anyone care to join me for a little ride and get me re-familiar with it all?
As I haven't been on real a long ride since I went on a Equestrian holiday in southern Ireland. I did a few more weeks at centres in Portsmouth but never got back in to it. In fact if I find a good place I would even replace it with my gym membership as its much more fun and nice and physical activity.

I would suggest http://www.aldboroughhall-equestrian.co.uk/ they run higher level dressage shows and the "main man" there rides and competes at a very high level (not sure if he still does as Ive been out of the loop for some time now).

Found it, seems 'pricey' but then I might not be sure having not been for years, also I can't do it because of this -

Weight limit 12.5 Stone/175lb/80k

Dont understand that at all...they should have some bigger heavier horses

Surprised me, maybe they only want pretty boney people riding round Hyde park, not fat munters like myself.

a lot of stables have weight limits for riders - tho that is fairly low (normally more like 14 stone)

I've actually been looking into this recently and the London options are pretty expensive. Personally I'd be more inclined to try some of the ones round Woking, but unfortunately the people I've been thinking of going riding with live in London and don't have cars, etc

These are some of the ones I've found previously in SW London (haven't tried them though):
http://www.kingstonridingcentre.com/richmondpark.html
http://www.ridinginlondon.com/
http://www.ridgwaystables.co.uk/horse_riding_london.html
http://www.wvstables.com/ (IIRC you need to join this one as a member though as there's so much demand!)

This is just North of London:
http://www.trentpark.com/TPEC/Content/About.asp

You may also find that they make you do a lesson before they let you out on a hack - the health and safety police are everywhere these days!!

I'd def be interested in joining you for a ride tho - let me know when you're planning on going along

In fact, I'd even stretch to a bimble down to the ol' smoke to join you for a longer hack out.

My mum used to live in south London and her flat overlooked a riding stables - this was in Mottingham Lane, between Eltham and Bromley. Might be a bit far out for you. I don't know anything about the place but it always looked OK to my completely unhorsey eye.

We just need to sort a date, some time in August would be a nice start, gives me time to get a few lessons in to get up to speed in my ghey activity.

You can do two hour rides in Windsor Great Park at the weekend (or evenings during summer)- if your basically competant - pretty pricey at £50 (Last time I went which was over 6 months now - blame the bike) Used to go with WAYSIDE & they don't have to see you ride first - which can be good or not so good - (small incident where japanese chap went cantering off throught the woods sat there like a mannequin dummy comes to mind)

Belive TALLYHO do something similar but never tried 'em.

Otherwise - seems to be a lot going on in Kent - which would be cheaper but I can't be arsed with the journey.

Enjoy

Cause they are beautiful animals and not everything has to involve speed does it?

Something what that much power/potential to do harm and that small a brain, can't be a good thing!! ;)

Although well Ghey for a dude to be into them, horses are fine ... as long as they are kept off the road ... and especially their **** kept off the road!!
