View Full Version : Im Indoors goes to hospital.....

.....on Tuesday, for his hip replaced8-[. Hes certainly got the mileage in before he goes, Somerset, Lincolnshire and Wales in this month, and a whole barrel of Tramadol...the Raptor secretly told him not to go to Wales this weekend...the shock wee'd oil over my garden!
So here hopefully end ten years of agony and a wonky swagger. Hes very anxious right now, grumpy too. I try to ignore this, but I'm just as anxious8-[.
I've a whole weekend on nights, and, off we go to hospital at 7.30 Tuesday.
Fingers crossed all goes well8-[

Hes 29, you wouldn't think there were owt wrong...you did meet him this week.
Yes it is bike related, a woman in a vauxhall Omega ploughed into him on a crossroads at 40mph, 19 year old, put a 60degree bend in the frame of his bike...... Hes had the scaffold holding him up so far( it still is) but the cartlilage is fooked so hes having a new hip put in.

Wishing 'im Indoors the quickest of recoveries and you plenty of sympathy for all the tea/coffee/sandwich making your gonna have to do because he needs to rest for atleast 12 weeks!
Its so routine now it amazes me, my gran and grampa have both had replacement hips at 70+ and they are completely fine, amazing really, infact my other grampa is due one soon aswell.
Good luck with its, theres nothing to worry about at all.
Wished him good luck last weekend, but repeat it again here.

he went to occupational health/physio session this week, and it were full of olds;)
Its very routine, just not on someone so young. TBH, once its done, he'll be like the 29 yr old that he should be:cool:

Tell him to stop malingering and lead with his good one up the stairs and dodgy ones down.
<smut>
So, I guess it is you doing the work until he gets his hips working properly.
</smut>
Step mum had her first one at age 40, sods did it wonky and she now needs built up boots. When she had the other one done, she had hoped they would do a match. Different hospital/surgeon and the original is still an inch shorter than second.
Good luck to he n thee
:-thumleft:
Don't you think its just a bit weird when you step back and think:
Broken bike, take out broken bits, replace with new non-broken bits. Sorted
tools: Screwdriver, spanners, wrenches, screws and bolts
Broken people, take out broken bits, replace with new non-broken bits. Sorted

Hope he mends well. Remember to keep lubricating the moving parts.
(that's really borderline, but it wasn't even intended to be funny, sorry!)

funny you should say that, his original op was pretty much a mess, it was more like....hmmmm which bit goes where, sorta thing. Unfortunatly hes been walking around for ten years with one leg an inch shorter than the other, they hope to remedy that when they give him the new hip. All ceramic ball, so maybe I'll be able to play snooker with him:joker:

I feel really useless this morning. I wasn't allowed to stay at the hospital:(, hes first in at 9. Perhaps if I was his wife instead of the ever suffering girlfriend, perhaps it would be different. I was told it was visiting hours only!
My dad was in hospital a few years back, and as the wife my mum could come and go as she pleased.
So all I get to do is pace up and down here, until 'I'm allowed' to show my face:(
Aw that's tough, and not very fair:(

Sorry but only just seen this thread. Hope all goes well hun, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Some wards do maintain a strict visiting times only policy and that includes wives and husbands as well and orthopaedics tend to be a bit strict cos of the infection risk. Best wishes

As far as I know the op went well. Matt asleep as always!! Asked him if he was ok, the reply was..''I am now'' and he promptly pressed the morphine button!:smt030. Hes been in and out of sleep(no surprise) and I will be off there again later. Have had some marvellous well wishes by phone from certain members of the org...you know who you are..we're both really grateful for it, also from all of you on this thread.
Hes got a nice marker pen arrow on his leg( just so the surgeon didn't forget Northy):rolleyes:and apparently he will be up out of bed in the morning:smt083

They're getting him out of bed in the morning and standing. well true to Matts stubborn form, he got out of bed this morning on his own free will, before the physio turned up, hobbled to the nursing station and told them he really needed to pee....lol

His stance is so much straighter, as he's been wonky on one leg shorter than the other for ten years. Definetly back to his usual sarcy self too:smt101, I took this pic as he was just about to go for an xray

:smt046, lol, thats like my dad, he had 6 hours worth of surgery a few years back, stayed in ICU for a while, after he got bored on the normal ward, he pulled out all the wires and drips, n stuff, and took himself off for a walk.
The nurses came and said '' now then Mr Norris, we need to get you mobile and take you for a few steps''

thanks for all your support and would like to make a start with the 'i was wearin' me ferkin' leathers' when the district nurse comes round to remove the stiches.
Apart from feeling a bit wooly in the head i'm ok, no massive amounts of pain or anything. i would like to break some distressing news though, Blueflame i've had to sleep in a room with somebody that snored 3 times louder than you could. how i didn't beat him to death with a bunch of grapes i'll never know. thank god for morphine on demand, wanted one for home but was strangly refused. :scratch:
